I'm looking to upgrade from a phazer to a nytro any input on which of the 08,09,10 would be best or which to stay away from. I'm not a racer just want some more power than the phazer

I just did the same thing, real happy with my purchases..i would go 09 or newer..

Any year but an 08 I would go with. Make sure to do your home work before you buy one. Theirs alot of info on this site about the nytros.

Check subframe to make sure it's not tweaked, spindles can bend also, then if u can lift the front end check the a arm bushings, they normally go around 2-3kmi. Ask about exhaust doughnuts also.

09 has new spindle design that helps handling, not sure how the cross shaft in the 10 changed anything from the 09 but that's the differance between them.

Don't be afraid of the 08 as long as it's in good shape and is priced right. They can be just as good as the newer versions with a few modifications. I'm still running a 08 RTX and have no desire to upgrade to a newer Nytro.

What kind of mods would I need to upgrade an 08 to make it as good as an 09. most of the ones around here are 08's and I can pick one up for around $5000 one is the 40th anniversary edition

I have an 08 RTX Anniversary, for starters-- revalve all shocks, upper ball joint mod, a=arm bushings and copper exh. gaskets and subframe gussets. Then clutch kit, exhaust, spindles. There is a lot you can do, I love my 08.

If its an RTX they have Fox Floats, if they are a standard Nytro they have the GYTR shocks with a spring.

I upgraded mine with a kit and they have the Evol chambers on them

I'd start by gusseting the frame so it doesn't bend, setting the toe to 1/2" out and making sure all the front bushings are good. You can change the a-arms and spindles to give it the same front geometry as the 09+ Nytro's. Several sleds are parted out every year so you could pick them up used or go with aftermarket. Hygear now offers a new adjustable upper a-arm for the Nytro which allows you to setup the caster and camber more like the newer sleds. I don't have an issue with the 08 geometry and in some ways I think it's better. I'm still running the original front end and found that proper suspension setup along with Curve skis and a steering post relocate made huge improvements. Although I don't have any significant complaints at this point with handling I'm going to install the Hygear Slicast a-arms to see if there is anything else to gain. Most Nytro owners have never been on a 08 and tend to believe this version is incapable of being a good trail sled but that is not entirely true. I've been on my Nytro since 2008 and so far there has not been a significant enough change in the new Nytros for me to consider a change.

OK I searched the gussets and see that Grizz is the man to talk to about it so if you(Grizz) can tell me the gusset price and how to order it I would appreciate it. Most of the ones I'm looking at are 08's but there are a few 09's for about $900 more. is it worth it?

First off, before you upgrade anything ride the sled and see if you feel any of the so called issues with this sled. Many of the riders are seasoned riders that can notice some of these nuances on the sled that are nowhere near noticeable to the casual rider. and many hav never been on an 08 at all they are just brainwashed by what they have read. I rode an 08 and could not tell for the life of me what was wrong with the shocks or the geometry. it all seemed normal to me. I had no problem staying with other sleds. I rode for thousands of miles on groomed trails without ever an issue with the frame being bent. If you are off trail rider that might be of a concern. The plastic bushings shold be replaced with oil lite bushings but that is a $30 fix. Like Grizz said, many of these get parted so parts can be had easily. If I did anything with the sled it would be Curve skis w leading edge. Darting issue is resolved. Darting is an issues with a lot of sleds not just the 08. You can get a good deal on an 08 in the Midwest and find a shipper on USHIP.com to ship it for $2-300. In fact, there are quite a bit that have a lot of mods done to it already for under $5000. I found one for $4500 a few years back and had it shipped for $250. keep your eye on the classifieds here. they come up often. And 5000 miles is nothing on these sleds.

Don't be afraid of a '08, If price is right I'd say grab it and ride it like you stole it.. I've got 7000 miles on my 08 rtx. Steering relocate, ball joint mod and skis are biggest improvements. :sled1:

I have an 08 nytro rtx and my friend has an 09 nytro se and you really can't tell any difference in handling. You just have to get it set up right and it will handle very well. Don't be afraid of an 08 nytro if you can get it for a good price.
