Hey guys,
Steve-o- here from BOSS Racing Team / WFO Photography. I'm the dood who does the blogging and photography for the #4 racing team in the WPSA Sno-X.
Heres what is going on. I am looking at snatching up either a Nytro or a Vector. BUT what is the difference? I'd like a phazer but other family members are going to be riding it, and they will get cold. (Woman...)
What are some specific reasons to buy each one? What are they geared for?
I know my Cats, I love them, I really do. But they stink! Help me convert my fleet over!

Since you're coming off of Cats you'd probably be happier on the Nytro. The Vector is more of a traditional riding position trail cruiser. You''l sit higher on the Nytro and the bars are higher...............for instance, I'm only 5' 11" but I put an extra 2" riser on my Nytro because I have relatively short arms for when I need to stand.
Couple of things to look out for. #1 the Nytro will be heavier than anything you've ridden in the Cat line. It won't feel heavier when riding but it will if you need to pick it up/unstick it. The Nytro is geared slightly lower than the Vector so slightly lower top speed and very slightly lower mileage. I go 295 and average around 17 to 17.5 mpg on mine.
The rear skid will seem a little harsher than what you're used to. Just fact. Do some tweaking to it though and the ride can be improved. If you know how to adjust ride characteristics you'll be way ahead of the game.
Another thing to look out for.....it'll feel slightly tippy when cornering and you'll get a lot more inside ski lift than what you're used to. Couple easy fixes for that. Play with the air pressure in the Fox floats and change to a larger diameter sway bar and it'll rail a LOT better. Aftermarket larger sway bar runs like $90 or so.
Good Luck on whichever you choose!!

Yes, be forewarned that Yammy has a problem with their idler wheels, 3 model years in a row now.
The wheel and bearing are a sealed unit, so when one or the other goes first, you have to replace both, ie. nonserviceable bearings.
Longevity is an issue with them as well. Delaminating rubber on some, warpage on the all plastic ones.
The bearings are also narrower than any other manufacturer, therefore seize much sooner.
If you do get a Yammy, upgrade the wheels immediately with wider aftermarket/Skidoo/Polaris wheels as these problems can arise within a couple hundred miles, seriously. Do a search here and you will be flabbergasted at how many posts are related to these idler wheel problems, sliders included (I'm on my 4th set after 2700km).

The idlers do have issues. My front inner plastic wheels have been worn out for the last 1000 miles. They don't seem to be causing any problems. Hyfax wear is not an issue for me on my sled, lasting at least 2000 miles. The Vector rear skid shock is poor to say the least. Nytro has much better shocks.
I have an '05 Vector ER but the Nytro wasn't available in 2005. If I was going to buy again I'd get the Nytro as I like my Vector a whole lot more with the seat, handle bar and shock swap. If I had a Nytro to begin with all I would have had to do would be swap the windshild. I like the ProActive skid that's on the '05 Vector and the Nytro. The newer Vector has a softer Mono Shock skid except for the base model.
All in all I love this sled.

The Nytro is a great sled; tons of tourqe, and it can handle the bumps very well. It is, however, a cold sled to ride. I've gone up one size with the windshield, and it's better, but my 2000 ZR 600 was WAY warmer. I feel that the seating position is to blame for this, but I wouldn't change it as the ease of transition from sitting to standing (and back) on this sled is great. Lots of fun in the nasties with mondo tourque..... but the Vector has longer legs (due to the gearing differences) if that's important to you. Best of luck, and thanks for the link.

I would say the same thing..... Get the Nytro..
Has a top speed of around a 100mph give or take 5..
Once you ride a rider forward sled,, you will never go back to the traditional sit down sleds..

Thanks guys! Each model has their problems. Although, I've put 6K of pure hell through my 2000 ZL500, and have only had one primary clutch failure (Last week!) and the throttle positioning sensor failed. (Which i broke that connector off in the three connector connection if that made sense?!)
I think I will go with the Nytro. It just seems like if you want to ride slow, you can. If you get cold, hop on one of our cats which have big shields. But it also can pound the trails. THANKS!!

As somebody else mentioned I swapped the original "windkini" for the mid-height one that comes stock on the Vector. Makes a WORLD of difference and the handguards barely touch on full lock. A very worthwhile addition. Good Luck!
