I am looking to buy 2009 nytro xtx with 10,000 miles. Do you think there is still life left in the motor. and what would you think you would have to do to the motor with that many miles.

What are you looking to pay for it? I have a buddy that has 13000 miles and his still runs strong.

i think with that many miles, the engine is the least of your concerns - bearings, wheels, track, gears, drive chain, clutch bushings and on and on and on. a yamaha 4 stroke will outlast the chassis - just like a cummins will outlast the dodge it's put in. i think for $5-6000 you can probably find a machine with less than 10k on it.

With 10,000+ miles I would consider getting the valves adjusted in another 15,000 miles or so - haha. All the other stuff on the chassis would be of greater concern. As long as he changed the oil, the motor should be fine.

buy it really cheap and throw a charger on it

I know the motor would be fine but how about the electronics. With the miles could that be a problem down the road. The rest of the sled would be a summer project.

When it comes down to it... its a 2009 so if it has that many miles its probably similar to highway miles and wear and tear on the machine really shouldnt be an issue... excluding balljoint and bearings... which will be an easy cheap fix. If you find it for around 4kish i'd say give er hell.

I would worry about the bulkhead being bent, control arm bushings and ball joints and all the drive bearings. Maybe even the clutch wear. Other than that, it is a pretty decent sled. Motor isn't an issue. I paid $8200 out the door in '09 for my XTX new including the 5 yr warranty. I sold a 08 RTX last summer for $5000 with 7400 miles on it and it was in near perfect shape.
Price isn't bad, but for another $1000 you can get one with 1/3 the miles if you look around. I just saw a 09 xtx sell on ebay for a little over $6000 with about 1500 miles on it.

Not sure what im going to do but thanks for all the information. Right now im just looking for a summer project.

Another thing to consider is 10000 miles on a sled in two riding seasons in a ton and this guy probably knows a lot about the sled and the updates needed to be done to sled to put on that many miles. I would talk to him, ask him if he is a member here...most guys that love the sport enough to put on those sorts of miles probably know quite a bit about their machines!
