I'm planning on building my own soon also and want it on top, did you leave the lip in to top of the tunnel or did you cut it off before you put the block off on? thanks

the icing comes from snow hitting the bottom side of you exhaust pipe and muffler. if you put the plate between the track and muffler then less snow will turn instantly to water and quickly back to ice. That's how they build so much ice. Putting the plate between your protectors to keep the snow from getting to your exhaust system works best.

I couldn't agree more, you can mount it from the bottom or the top. The after market ones go between the protectors and the muffler and just rivets to the hole edges from the bottom. With the mine there is also less muffler mass as I am running a Barker muffler and it doesn't sit as low as the factory one there for it was easy to shape and cut as well as mount from the top.
