I picked up an 09 Nytro XTX for my son. I have pretty much gone through it from end to end and figured I may as well address slide wear before it starts. I have always used marginal snow wheel's in all my other sled's but was thinking about giving scratcher's a try. What scratcher's work best or are they just a pain in the #*$&@? I run marginal snow wheel's with Dupont's on Apex with excellent results, thought scratcher's may be a cheaper/simpler fix?

Ive had some experience with them, they always seem to bend or break on my xtx. It may be different with different brands. I alwasy just roll with the wheels since they have lasted longer for myself. I would stick with wheels in my opinion.

Larger wheels. A few options out there, 135 mm polaris wheels (with some mount modification) or excell motorsports makes the X wheels, with replaceable bearings, 135.8 mm complete for $30 each

Do you just replace the existing wheels with the 135's or do you still need extra wheel's to? Also read about some cracking rail's with bigger wheel's?

Over 9000 sold they say. I have read of some people saying it adds extra stress on the rails, but most have great success, I guess with the Internet you'll always have some negatives. Looks like $285 for the 8 wheel xtx kit

135mm ski doo idlers and stock Yamaha idler mounts work well with no modifications needed. I picked up the idlers at MFG supply for $21 each

Are they a direct replacement on an XTX?

I use the stock sliders with very good results and no marginal snow wheels. Before install I drill holes in the slider about every 6" down the center of the high wear areas going slighlty side to side as I drill, this way I can visibly check the actual wear of the slider, I think this also helps lubricate them. The first couple rides the sliders will wear quite a bit, but when They get to a certain point and the wear stops, they are about 3/4's worn by this point but don't seem to wear much at all once they have reached this point. Have been using the same set of stock sliders now for about 1500 miles and will be using the same set this season. That is if it every snows!!!

Well I ordered a pair of Dura Flex scratcher's for this year. I'll give them a try, if they don't work out I will go with an Excell wheel kit next year. Figured I spent enough on it for one year. LOL Thanks!

I got the wheels from mfg supply like grizz but i got the ones with the slightly wider bearing so i just added a washer on the mounts so the washer that presses on the bearing race has something to tighten against. prob not the best practice but it works and bearings should last longer. They are the same bearing/wheel that you can put onto a skidoo. If ur adding a 4th wheel kit this way you can get skidoo mounts as well that only need a little dremel tool or grinder work to be added.
Also just use the $10 a piece cheapo slides and last year i put on 1100 miles and when i took them off this year to check wear since they are soo cheap most places i drilled through was 60% of better. If i woulda skipped the last ride of the year the wear would have been much better im sure with how shitty the trails were. With the wider wheels u gotta cut the aluminum down in the area were the front wheels mount. if thats a hassle for you then order the excel wheels for up front. Think my total cost for the wheels as $100. I have some oem style wheel adding mounts in the rear/middle were the susp comes down that i bought some kimpex wheels to try.
Also check the bearings on the rear idlers. oems are none replacable atleast on my 2009. Yamaha sells replacments that are cheaper than the originals and have replacable bearings. I got four new ones this year. Added the 4th wheel to the back so if one fails the other will hold the track in line. Just gotta pull the rod out. measure. cut the aluminum spacer to the correct length and amount removed. good to go.
I am debating getting those scratchers and adding them to the skies. have them mount to the plastic in front of the spindle so i can pull them up and store them on the ski. That way 70-80% of the ice/snow goes into the slides instead of maybe 30-40% when u mount them on the rails. Not sure how well it will work but I figure it might work.

I had the skid out and replaced the two front inner wheel's with the cheaper GYT wheel's as well as some bushing's. I didn't think about slide wear at the time or I would have gone with over sized then. The reviews on the Dura Flex's were pretty good with only a couple failures. They say you can ride on bare ice with no slide heat and motor stays cool. We'll see?

1300 miles on original slides. Added the low snow wheels at 0 miles. Slides still have 60% left and have stopped wearing. I was going to install the excell's but I don't think they're needed. Guys panic when they read about slide wear and buy the kit.
