2009 NYTRO XTX (phase III) the never ending project....

I WAS HOPING NO ONE WOULD NOTICE THAT..... my old switchback cover fits like a glove. the nytro isn't aloud to leave the shop wearing it, hate to have laughed at and made fun of, also rather spend the $250.00 for new cover on mods instead.

the switchback is whole other VERY LONG UNHAPPY STORY, I'll just say everything polaris has liquidated from my procession and will never buy another polaris anything....with the exception on my oulaw quad beacause its mostly KTM anyways and slowly replacing any/all poor quality stuff with aftermarket stuff anyways. most of my issues have to do with local dealer (if you could call him that). note.... It was pretty pimped out also similar to the nytro when done this phase.
tell your buddies that the polaris cover is a nice theft deterrent, let your insurance company also know you have it and they might drop your premium a little bit more!

Iv been considering the star kit for my xtx also and I like the idea of a Fox float in the center. Will the float work with the stock setup or do you have to have the star kit? Also what is the length of the shock and what air pressure did you run?

Love the mods ;)!

thanks.... the fox center shock is approx....3/8" shorter than stock shock, and would have to check notes but I think I was running somewhere around 65 psi in the shock. I worked really well with the stock shock/suspension set-up I was running. (it was on rails trail riding and worked well off trail/big bumps also

ok.... its fast approaching sled time, its that time of year to store the summer toys one at a time and put away the broken ones where they can be worked on easily in the spring.

I might have my complete skid sold to a local guy for cash and his skid in trade (wait and see). if not the search will be on to try and find some really good used stock / un-modified stock rails to put the timbersled kit into. I really don't want to modify the current set-up again as there are two holes that were drilled for the star kit that are kinda close to two that I have drill for timbersled kit.

I will post some pics of the new suspension kit shortly, it looks really nice and shocks should be amazing. side note, as soon as I bought the kit they come out with an new better fox shock package with the kasima coated shocks.....lol

a quick storey/history of my nytro.......(and maybe my midlife crisis if you ask the wife)

WINTER 2009/2010

bought 2009 nytro xtx used (1500kms) February 2010 for $ 9,000.00 ca

-rode stock (except snow trackers....aggressive)
-mirrors added inside handguards

WINTER 2010/2011

-Yamaha heaters with boost
-copper donuts
-trail tank
-skinz float plate

WINTER 2011-2012

-excel o/s wheel kit (8 wheel kit)
-Yamaha marginal snow wheel kits (2)
-4 wheel axle kit (home made....Yamaha wheel & hacksaw)
-relocated tail light (just for looks......same location as short track)
-stainless steel drawer pulls for luggage attachment points

WINTER 2012-2013

-redo entire front end (bushings, ball joints etc...lots of $$$......should have bought a new front end from skniz)
-star suspension linkage kit
-star suspension billet pull rods
-hygear torsion spring spacers
-fox float X evol front shocks (back door race parts) used parts
-fox float center shock 9back door race parts) used parts
-OFT steering relocation kit (used parts from TY classifieds)
-new snow trackers (semi....like them way better than aggressive)

WINTER 2013-2014 (summer project)

-skinz 42" front end kit (used parts from TY classifieds)
-gusseted sub-frame (used parts from TY classifieds)
-mountain tech aluminum skid plate (used parts from TY classifieds)
-mountain tech vented dash kit(used parts from TY classifieds)
-timbersled "mountain tamer" kit (using stock rails & wheels) float 2 center shock & fox float x evol rear shock
-shimmed/relocated rad (homemade mod)
-service fox float x evol front shocks

notes..... i had it really good till middle of last winter, until I installed the float x evol front shocks and realized how amazing they are & then the rear end didn't feel so good (balanced). this resulted in search for a new rear skid/or mods to bring it up to par with the front end. i decided to upgrade the old nytro again instead of buying a new viper......AND THINGS GOT TOTALLY OUT OF HAND....resulting in the crazy list for this summer.

Special Thanks to the following:

hibshman25 (used parts......able to buy for the same money i had in the budget)
Jason @ T.S. (parts & info)
Jon @ HG (info & setup)
Spence @ 2KP (parts)
Mountaintech (parts & info)
OFT (parts & info)
Robert @ Star (parts & info)
AND ALL THE GUYS WHO POST ON HERE!!!

Did you get most of your parts for this years mods from Hibsman? If so those were on my sled that I sold him and he parted out. The skinz stuff was an unbelievable improvement to the sled. The harder you rode it the better it did.

Its kind of funny that I go by JP111 and my old parts end up on stubbs111 sled

Have fun with your mods!

so I haven't updated this for a long time as I was really busy with things. got it all back together during the Christmas holidays and have been working on setup..... and have it dialed in approx. 2000kms on it. on holidays for 10 days so hopefully pound another 2000kms on it. here's some pics of it in progress and all together. I'll break it down a little bit into different parts of work carried out.

skinz front end, fox float x evol shocks, gusseted sub-frame

installed a gusseted front sub-frame, skinz front end, fox float x evol front shocks

- installed a gusseted front sub-frame (previously enjoyed part... thanks "hibshman") wish I would have ahd time to get it nickel plated, as it would have looked very cool.

- installed a skinz 42" front end (previously enjoyed part... thanks "hibshman") special thanks to Ulmer Racing for an oilite bushing kit for the skinz front end.

- installed fox float x evol front shocks(previously enjoyed part... special thanks to my buddy "trevor" and his cousin who races for Yamaha for these) shocks were serviced/rebuilt by "SHOCKTEC"

timbersled suspension (fit kit install)

Rear suspension update using TIMBERSLED mountain tamer rear suspension (fit kit) utilizing the stock Yamaha 144" tipped rails, shock package with the kit is a fox float 2 center shock and a fox float x evol rear shock. I re-used my 4 wheel axle kit (homemade), excel oversized wheel kit (8 wheels) and 1 marginal snow wheel set, I can usually get a full season out of the slides (2500-4000kms depending on weather). At this time I should state weight reduction was not a real concern with work carried out, it was more about trying to put together my ultimate trail sled.

Track used right now is the stock ripsaw 1.250" with 114 1.375 studs (can't remember type) and has well over 10,000kms on it with now tear outs or missing lugs.

I had some temp light issues since I added a TRAIL TANK and completed the following work to try and solve problem. So far it seems to be working 1500kms and no issues but, no really warm weather yet so I"ll to wait and see for sure.

a MOUNTAIN TECH vented dash was installed (previously enjoyed part thanks "hibshman" again

a rad relocation was made out of some plastic that was laying around the garage, it moves the rad away from the gas tank allowing air to flow better through the rad. the top of the plastic rad shroud was cut make room for wires due to rad relocation.

Ha! Exactly what the dealer said when I left with a ski-doo rev cover on mine :)..."atleast you wont have to worry about anybody stealing it" sadly the rev cover fits almost perfectly lol. I only trailer a couple times a year but I really need to get a Yami cover!

I always tell myself I will work on the sled in the summer. I don't ever get to it until before Christmas. Great job!

quick update.......I have approx. 3000kms on this setup so far this year and have it dialed in right now. it works very well for me, you can trail ride it all day long, longest ride this year is 420kms or go bash the bombed out stuff with no problems.

the wish list for it now is getting pretty small now. thinking a WRP +2" seat and a couple small home built bits & pcs

WINTER 2014-2016.... Nothing but annual maintenance on the nytro, did some mods to the wife's (white one) and father in-laws (black one) vectors. They both got a full ohlins suspension set-up, ohlins front shocks and ohlins (apex) ec shocks in the rear. All the stuff was sourced / purchased used over a 6 month period, then sent out to SHOCKTEC to be servived, re-sprung & re-valved for each of them. I also found a new ohlins standalone shock controller and modified it for use as as plug and play unit so it can be used for both machines. The final result is a pair of really amazing trail sleds.

WINTER 2015-2016.... this is the current state of my nytro.....I picked up a +2" mountain mod seat for it, TS Fabrication oil tank which was on the wish list for a while but, then I tore the bottom out of the stock one removing the drain plug.....and I got one (man it is a sweet pc). neoprene shock covers for the FOX Floats all around.

NEXT PHASE..... thinking may skid relocation, move back an inch and install 146" long 1 3/4" backcountry studded up the middle. and maybe a tunnel cooler setup with a rad delete.

Sweet sled , I wish we had some snow up in Maine so I could do some tuning on my suspension, with all the up grades done to the sled . 6 hour ride with little snow kinda sucks . Get out and ride that thing .
