there is one on the shaft that you took the gear off of.

Theres a groove on the shaft and I replace it every time I pull the top gears. Cheap and it stop watef from getting in.

is there a need to replace the ring everytime you do something to the top gear or is this just a precaution?

Precaution it only cost buck.lol

It goes in a small groove rig
ht where the shaft goes through the outer case cover. The spacer goes over it sealing the oil in.

as above... right in the same spot as top shaft seal in outer cover.. seal in cover keeps oil from comming out around spacer... o-ring keeps oil from comming out between shaft and spacer... ... yes you need it... can be put back on with just caliper/rotor removed.

I put O-ring back in today. I Found the correct place for it. thanks to everyone for the help.
