That is the o ring that goes behind the locking collar.

Looks like an o-ring from either the upper jack shaft or lower drive axle area of the chain case.
#61 in the snip attached goes in a groove inside collar #62, this is an oil seal for the jack shaft. I believe on earlier models, this o-ring sat in a chamfer on the side of the collar vs a groove in the collar.
The second possible location is on the lower drive axle #11 o-ring fits inside #12 collar and similarly is an oil seal for the lower drive axle. They often do not stay put when dis-assembling the chaincase and care needs to be taken when installing and using some oil on shaft/collar makes assembly easier.
