Ok, I've done a few oil changes but this time I measured how much oil came out after removing oil filter, engine oil fill cap (top of motor), reservoir cap and crankcase plug. Only 2.75 litres of oil came out. I am 100 percent sure I wasn't down a litre. I read on here that it is supposed to be 3.7 litres. What gives? Anyone know?

Total quantity in the system is 3.8L
Periodic oil change (No filter) 2.8L
Oil and filter change 3.0L

Hope that helps.

Did you roll your sled at all or tip it on it's side last winter? Just wondering, as that would explain the lower oil amount.

Otherwise, the 4 cylinder Apex motor will often ingest some oil, but a full liter is a bit much. After changing your oil last year, did you ever check your oil levels last winter during the season? Good idea to check it every few weeks just to be sure there's a proper amount in there.

On a side note, I'm sure your engine is fine even being a quart low. The oil would just get passed through the system at a faster rate due to less being in there as the oil circulates through, so maybe would have been a tad hotter. But as long as there is extra oil in the reservior, the engine has the right amount in the running motor due to the dry sump system. Just the way this motor works, as I understand it.

Nope Sled has never been rolled or on its side, ever. I do recall though, at the end of the season it was running hot specially on cold days (-25 to -35 Celsius). As soon as I hit the trail after a few miles of lake the light would come on, then light would go off as soon as I hit the lake again or some deeper snow. I attributed this to the full strength coolant I had in the system.( I will change to 60/40 or 50/50 this season). In hindsight I should have checked the level before I drained oil, instead of just loosening it and letting dipstick hang in reservoir. Sleds been sitting in the garage since end of March. I usually change oil and filter at end of season and 1/2 way through. I ride about 1000 miles a year. I Like Clean Oil. Maybe it was down a liter.
I even lifted back of sled up and front of sled off the ground to get extra to drain out.
And yes I do check oil levels during the season, BUT I can't recall doing it at the end of the season this year. I change the oil so often and check for leaks on floor every time I ride, that I guess I have a false sense of security that my oil level is always good. Gonna have to check level every time I ride as well.
I even added 100 ml in top of engine with drain plug off and nice clean amsoil immediately comes out, same with oil reservoir so nothing is plugged or gummed-up.
I will fill with oil now and see how much it takes.
Will post the amount when I am finished.

Did the usual, put 400 ml in top of engine then filled reservoir to L level on dipstick. Started it, ran for a few minutes then topped it up to H level on dipstick. Put 3.6 litres total back in. Sound right? Oh yeah, thanks fellers.
