I'm due for my first oil change and the yamaha dealer here wants $250 plus tax to change the oil. I think that's absolute BULL #*$&@ and I would rather buy the materials and do it myself. So here's my questions?
1. Will it void my warranty if I do it myself?
2. what's the best and most effective way of doing it?
3. Does anyone use a type of engine flush?
Thanx

Not sure what kind of sled you have I'm assuming RX. $250 is crazy I am not a mechanic by any means and it takes me less than an hour. Canadian about $40 for three quarts of Yamaha Semi Synthetic and a filter.
WARM UP THE ENGINE BEFORE CHANGING
1) Remove the bottom pan from below the motor.
2) Remove drain plug from the bottom of the motor and the oil tank.
3) Now the hard part.
4) Take off the air box.
5) Remove the battery
6) Remove the battery box. Careful it's in and around wires but it will come out.
7) Remove the oil filter. Jam some shop towel below the oil filter and remove it slowly allow a little oil to drain out screw it back in a bit and change the shop towels do it again. If you do it right the oil won't go everywhere. You will need a filter wrench to remove the filter.
8) Replace the filter and put everything back together.
9) Add two quarts of oil to the tank.
10) Run it for a couple of minutes.
11) Add one more to the tank.
12) Warm it up for at least 10 mins and check the oil you may have to add a little more.
Trust me if I can do it you can.
It will not void your warrantee.
Can't answer the engine flush question I never have done that.
If you have the RS sled it is basically the same but way easier. The oil filter is accessable without removing the battery and case.

Don't do an engine flush. Can't void warranty unless you goof up something.

$250 for an oil change isn't too bad, as long as your dealer includes heated indoor storage for the entire summer in that amount.

You can purchase the materials for about $30. So if they charged you about $100 for one that would seem a bit more realistic. But I'd still change my own.

And for $250 they should pick up and drop off your sled at your home.

What about the screen in the tank? Anybody clean it when they change the oil?
oil
I think you will need 4 quarts. If you have more than 2000 miles go with a full synthetic. I have quite a bit of mechanical experience and it took me almost 2 hours the first time. I was being careful and the damn side cover screws come out hard..... The battery bracket is irritating..
good luck. YOu have all summer...
