Ok, so I am gunna save myself some money and start changing the oil in all my sleds. In my manual it says to only change the oil filter every 20 000km. Is this correct or should you change it every oil change? Also, what oil should I run, and should I change my chain case oil aswell why I'm at it? Any comments or concerns would be appreciated.

I think you'll find most folks on here change their filter when new oil goes in. It's fairly cheap insurance and certainly won't hurt to go the extra. There's a small amount of dirty oil that stays in the filter anyway, so I guess why not get that outta there too? My engine and chaincase oil gets changed end of each season, regardless of how many miles. You'll enjoy doing all this yourself plus get the benefit of learning more about how your sled works.

I agree, change everything annually regardless of miles

Yes, good point. There are two hex screws holding that fitting on - the screen is in the shape of a long cylinder. Mine had a whole bunch of crap on it the first time I changed the oil...second and third times was pretty clean. Intitial time must have been manufacturing debris.

change the filter when you change the oil. i personally change these more frequently than recommended all oil gets dirty i don't care how high quality it is. i use mobil one 0-40 european blend and walmart st-6607 filter (manufactured by champion laboratories). always change the oil after the engine has heat in it and fill the filter with oil before you put it on. changing it at the end of the season before storage has merits as oil can become acidic, then you can take it out of storage and run it to the end of the season.

when you do oil do the filter. treat it like a car. You should change the oil every year. I beleive yamaha says like every 3000miles or every year. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to do it. First time I spent 2-2.5hrs changing the oil. The air box comes out, battery and battery box. Take off side panel and empty oil tank. Go undearneath youll find an allen head tak that off if you can get it to come off and get rest of the oil. take filter off. Reassemble. People argue back and forth about putting oil in the engine and the tank or just the tank. To be safe I put half a qt in the engine and the rest in the tank. Good luck. Dont use yamalube if you want to spend 40 bucks on 3 qts.
