First off I got to say that this site rocks :rocks:

I have not really posted many messages but this I just got to vent about.

Trying to change my oil in my '05 RX-1, what the #$%&* is up with the oil drain plug on bottom of the motor. I can not get the stupid #$%&* #$%&* off.

Any help on this? I have tried using a wrench as a cheater on the allen wrench. Has anyone else had this problem?

Yea, they get tight! Hit the head of the bolt with a hammer a few times.

The only way I could get mine out was to get the proper size easy out, and back that out using a wrench. Then I bought a new plug and now, I have no more problems, when I change the oil.

Well, I must say...after wrestling with the screws on the side panels, oil plug bolt, etc, I think it is pretty evident where retired sumo wrestlers go to get work. They are bolt tightners for Yamaha! :D

I guess that they must have eaten all there rice that day.

I used a allan head 3/8 socket for my 3/8 drive ratchet. It was snug took a bit of musle.

But above all use the right size. Its metric not standard sized. Don't stip the allen hole.

you should use a hi quality allen socket like a snap-on.i replaced my drain plug before it got too stripped /worn.

I'm suprised that no one has mentioned the way i did mine...all you need to do is grab the outside of the plug with vicegrips to loosen it. You may ding it a little, as did i, but the sealing surface was fine.

I am now off to Sears to buy a socket and hopefully this will get the job done. Then next is a pair of vise grips. Who knew that changing oil is such a pain. :o| Hopefully next time this will not be a problem.

dealer stripped mine for me!!! I replaced it with a bolt of the correct thread size

Thanks for all the useful input. Hopefully on Friday will have the oil change complete. It would have taken me about 30 minutes if I did not have to screw with that #$%&* bolt. Guess I will have to go get another six pack and a couple more hours working in the garage. :drink:
