Can I use the same filter for an R1 in my sled. I changed my oil the first year but last year I had the dealer do it during a warranty repair. Does all the oil go into the resevoir or some into both and how much oil?? 3.2 quarts??

I believe it is the same filter and yes 3.2 quarts. 2 into the oil tank and 1.2 into the engine.

Hmmmm. I was told by a yammie rep to add the 2.1 in the tank, then start it up and let it idle for awhile. Stop it,then add the rest of the oil in the tank until you hit the safe mark. Do not put oil into the valve cover oil hole????? At least on my vector anyway. RX may be different. :ORC

The R1 or FZ1 filters are the same. Get a NAPA gold filter made by WIX it is the best filter you can buy. I just changed my oil and I used Castrol GTX 5W30. Every oil comparison test I ever read in bike mags Castrol GTX allways came out on top. I am not worried about the starter clutch slipping, with all the guys using Mobil ! and AMS OIL last year I never heard of any starter clutch slippage.

I quoted my owners manual.MadMax said:Hmmmm. I was told by a yammie rep to add the 2.1 in the tank, then start it up and let it idle for awhile. Service manual says to add 2.1 qts. oil to tank, install dipstick and valve cover cap. Run engine, check for leaks and add oil as needeed to bring level within limits. This is a dry sump engine so you shouldn't be pouring oil into the valve cover opening.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but I just want to clarify--Is adding oil to the valve cover opening going to hurt the engine, or is it just better to add it to the tank?

Presumably, it *CAN*, that doesn't mean it WILL, or that its necessarily even *POSSIBLE* - the engine isn't designed for it, so its anyone's guess... you know that its bad for a car engine to have its oil overfilled? RX1 motor doesn't have an oil pan, so adding any oil there can overfill it, which might cause a lockup.
