I decided to tear into my sled and change the oil and filter, three hours later I'm done, what a chore!
I know this topic has been discussed over and over but when I replaced the oil I put two quarts in the engine and two in the tank.
After I did the job I checked the forums and most are saying put all of it in the tank and none in the engine and other are saying put three in the tank and one in the engine.
Will I do any damage doing it the way I did?
Thanks ofr the help guys.
On one of the other forums a guy said his only took 2.5 liters which is 2.6 quarts, I took this out of the service manual:
Engine oil: API SE, SF, SG or highter SAE5W-30
Type
Oil capacity
Periodic oil change 2.8 L (2.5 lmp qt, 3.0 US qt)
With oil filter replacement 3.0 L (2.6 lmp qt, 3.2 US qt)
Total amount 3.8 L (3.3 lmp qt, 4.0 US qt)
It's not showing overfilled on the dipstick but I'm not sure how long it takes to even out since i put half in the block.
Thanks gents,

3.2 quarts with filter change. You overfilled. 4 quarts is total capacity with a new engine or complete rebuild. You need to drain some out

I just changed my oil and filter in my 03 rx1 and it took 3 liters exactly and it was right on the full. I added it all to the oil tank.

I did mine it this fall it took exactly 3 quarts. Its perfect on dip stick make sure your not way over may cause exessive crankcase pressure. If you put four in you should be over quite a bit. When I changed mine I let the motor drain over night and it still only took three.

I put half a quart to 3/4 quart in the engine and the rest in the oil tank. When I get close to the middle of the mark on the dip stick I fire it up for a minute and then top it off. I usually double check after my first ride and then I'm good to go.
