oil leaking from behind yamcharger housing????

The last couple times I rode my sled I noticed a little oil on the gound under the yamcharger side of the sled.. I smelled it first thing to see if it was motor oil or chaincase oil. Its definately motor oil. It was just a small spot so I cleaned out the bellypan/side pannel on that side and rode it again. Once the sled sat for a few hours I noticed oil under that side again and oil in the bellypan again, just a small spot. ..... On my last ride I hit a deer so my sled is out of commission now and the season has finally ended here anyway so no more riding but I'd like to get it taken care of before next season... After cleaning up the small spot of oil and letting the sled sit there not running, no more oil shows up so it must be coming out only when the sled is running. I spoke to Danny at Gforce and he thinks it might be just some oil coming back out the vent hose that connects to the yamcharger. I did just change the oil in the sled but had ridden it about 400 miles before I noticed the oil... Not sure if it was just a little extra oil coming out or if there is a leak somewhere....

Anyone else with a yamcharger had any oil leaking issues???
 
I'll be pulling my impeller housing off this weekend to check and see what I can see behind it.. Hope its just a little oil from the vent hose but I've never had it before...
 
I put 3000 miles on mine this winter, trouble free accept this.... Its not a huge leak but its something I'd like to take care of...
 
I think its likely that I have a leak... Either at the pto seal or housing seal. I also noticed what looks like some oil splatter on the bottom of the crankcase vent hose and on the brake guard. It looks like its coming from behind the housing. As soon as I have some time (hopefully this weekend) I'll tear it apart and see if I can find he suspect...
 
Noticed same with my machine. Took it apart yesterday and found the bearing support had broken where the threaded portion screws into the flywheel cover. Oil was leaking past the o-ring used to seal between the support and flywheel housing. Talked to Danny at G-Force about this and they're sending a new support assembly.
 
I had a good ammount of oil being drawn from the vent hose when riding in colder temp's with a lot of snow dust from following several other sled's. It was enough to make it drip on the shop floor after riding. I suspect the snow dust created enough additional draw from filter restriction on the already flat vent hose to draw some oil. I moved the vent hose out of the impeller housing and up the delta box and to the rear and put the small UNI filter back in the end of the hose, No more oil from the vent. I also had a small leak about mid season. The impeller housing was dry on the inside but was wet on the back side of the backing plate. I put a new bearing housing assembly on and no leak's since. I would say if the impeller housing is wet on the inside it is from the crank vent. If it is dry on the inside and wet on the back side of the backing plate it is either the seal in the bearing or the O ring that seals the bearing housing to the mag cover. Not serious either way. When you talked to Danny did he tell you how to remove the impeller bolt with out loosening the PTO shaft?
 
On second thought when it was drawing oil from the vent I did not have oil inside the impeller housing. It was collecting on the filter material and running down and out the bottom of filter material.
 
Thanks kviper. Danny didn't tell me anything about removing the impeller bolt without loosening the pto shaft. I was hoping to get it torn apart last weekend but just got too busy. Im sure I won't be able to get to it this weekend but maybe the first part of next week. I have some small amout of oil inside the impeller housing but also some behind it. I was riding in warm (35-40) temps, alone, with no snow dust when I noticed it. There was no snow on the filter at the time either so I don't think its that, Im pretty sure I have some sort of leak behind the impeller housing... Hope I can get it torn apart next week....
 
Sounds like the issue is in the seal or O ring. It is simple to get the impeller off just slide a 3/16 piece of flat stock between the impeller and backing plate so it sticks out both side's of the impeller/backing plate and clip two vise grips on locking the impeller and backing plate together, Then hit it with an impact and it spins right out. It should be counter clock wise on the bolt and I rechecked the PTO torque (90 lb) and (70 lb) on the impeller bolt when reinstalling. I think mine was the O ring between the Mag cover and bearing housng, Not sure why but my bearing housing was not as tight as it should have been in the mag cover and I know I had it a good 1/4 turn after snug but I have it tight now and all is good so far. Put the new bearing housing/impeller cover on and noticed the fiber brake dust deflector was showing signs of heat stress (melting). Appears as if it was touching the brake rotor so now have some ty straps attached to the frame keeping it away from the rotor. Something to watch for when you have yours apart.
