why? the motor will auto shut down if starved for oil

yeah - there is an oil pressure switch located near your oil filter. I had some f'n rats gnawing on my wiring down there. Had the little bugger chewed through, it probably would've thrown code 85 - oil pressure switch open cct.
now, if you see code 30, then houston, you've got a problem. that'd be oil pressure has dropped to low. your sled won't start, & your sled won't run.
let's hope nobody ever gets that one!!

The sensor has to be hooked up or the motor won't run. Done some research on this and now I know where to go with it.
I'll post some pics.

First step is to get access to the sensor.
Well, it's right next to the oil filter on our Nytros. Now we are in business. Un-hook the Sub-Lead connector.
Let's remove it. I had to drain oil first, and here is a close up of the sensor removed. This is what they call the Oil Pressure Switch Assy and part #8FP-82504-00 If you drop it you will need this number.
Plan is to put a nipple into block that will then thread into a Tee where on one end the Oem sender will go and the other end is for the gauge sender.
My gauges are arriving next week some time so I will finish this process hopefully by next weekend. Went to Home Depot to get the fittings, I have the tee but I'm not happy how the copper nipple feeds onto block so I don't want a copper one. I will post final result.
Thanks

quick question - what do you hope to accomplish by adding the gauge?
do you happen to know the operating PSI or what the lowest pressure can be before it throws code 30?
if the sled didn't have a safety feature built in I could see adding the gauge, but do you really think it's necessary?

Basically this is part of my gauge package. Is it necessary? Well depends on personal preference. To me, I would like to know if my oil pressure is dropping before a code goes off.
I do know what others have posted on the operating psi but these where on different motors so I'm not 100% sure about the PSI for the Nytro(I suspect it should be close) but I will post this info when I get her running.

I believe running pressure is approx. 7.5 psi @ idle. The ECU will detect a drop in pressure & shut down sled, before you ever notice a sweep on the guage. my 0.02
water temp guage would be nice to have though. sled only shuts down if temps go too high on idle only - not while running!!!
good luck with the install.

FX Nytro oil pressure is 7.3 psi @ 1400 rpm. Don't expect a cheapy gauge to tell you that.
Figure out a baseline with your new gauge and take it from there.
Notice the discrepancies in the other two guys pressure readings. Same type sled - 2 different gauges - 2 different readings.
What other gauges did you hook up to that bad boy? any pics?

Thanks for the info. Where did you get this number. I assumed it would be between 7-35 psi. We are gone off topic from what I originally asked but thats okay. I will hook up the gauge and go from there.
Seems like there are discrepencies from one machine to another. If this gauge don't give me any sort of significant reading. I won't run it. Figured it might be useful. I will have to see. I went with Autometer.

I'll try to stay on topic from here on out!! lol
edit - linky no work - let's try it again.
It's in the books guys. This was very useful info Blue. 7.3 not that I didn't believe you.
I want an accurate reading or none at all. If I can't get a gauge to send this info, I may forget this mod. Afterall, what is the point if there is no benefit. Not doing it just for the look.
Is there an oil pressure gauge just for snowmobiles or other small engines like street bikes that gives lower psi readings?
Thanks
