oil tank leaking

Just wondering it the oil tank leaked out a quart of oil while riding is it going to cause damage to the motor,like if the oil filter ad a pin hole in it ? I read on the site that the motor would be toast if the oil filter was leaking while the motor was running. Any input would b good thanks . Psychological I think it leaked from the oil drain plug on the tank .

Nytro oil tanks crack, as for motor , don't see why that should be hurt as long as there was still oil in it. But you will need to do something about the tank for sure

As far as the engine goes, if it still runs, sounds good and perform normally it is likely ok. I don't think I have ever heard of a pin hole in a oil filter, but I guess anything is possible, especially if the filter is damaged. More likely the oil loss is caused by a leaking filter seal. Or a cracked oil tank or if your like me, from riding it upside down with no anti roll over protection . In that case the oil goes inside your airbox. Do you have a skid plate? If you leaked out a quart of oil it would be a pretty big mess in there. Maybe its just a loose oil plug?

Yes I noticed the oil in the sled dock , on the floor soaked into the wood .looks like the drain plug was a little on the loose side . I looked on TY and found some info on the oil filter leaking just a little bit , and causing big problems with this motor . Just wonder if the oil tank is on the other side of the oil pressure? If so I should be good . Looks like I lost a quart + - .

I think the posts you are talking about is when the oil filter has a catastrophic leak and the starves the engine of oil at high revs before you can shut it off?? If you're talking about a slow leak and the tank just running a bit low, i'd guess your engine would be fine if you didn't ride too long like that. If the main bearings were starved of oil due to a catastrophic leak, youd know right away next time you rode it. Good luck and keep us posted!
