2007 Yamaha Attak GT
Hello all,

A little back story, I am in the market for a used sled since I recently crashed my 04 Viper. To be very honest, I thank God that I'm alive and was able to walk away and hug and kiss the wife and kids. I've been riding for 20 years but with the conditions, I came up on an unfamiliar corner to fast apparently and started sliding out and bailed. Sled hit a tree and I hit another tree. Scary stuff! I thank the Lord every day I get out of bed!!

Anyway, I'm looking to change up my riding style a bit to be fun/relaxed but would still like performance and of course it has to be a Yammi! :yam: I'm leaning towards a 2008 Apex GT LTX because I love the look of the Anniversary and I'm thinking 136" is the ticket for me but it is at the top of my price range of $5k. I could go Attak but maybe lose something in suspension? Don't think Phazer is the right fit for me? Vector could work? Nytro might be a touch too much for me being I don't have the need for extreme speed anymore.

Please offer some feedback on track length preference, ride/comfort, reliability/updates and value. I'm comfortable spending somewhere in the $4-5k range. I'm really torn but feel I'm in a good buying position this time of year.

Thank you!

First off....

Attak & Apex GT LTX. Only difference is tunnel adjust shock vs electric. No ride difference. No performance difference.

Coming off a Viper, the Phazer will feel like a turd. And really, it is. 'Nuff said.

FX Nytro... I had one. Hated it. It's NOT a trail cruiser & it sounds like that's what you want. Nytro, not for you.

Vector... If your budget is $5k, you won't find a '10 or newer FI Vector. Not that the carb ones are bad, but the FI 1049 rocks.

IMO.... Find an Attak or Apex LTX if you want a 136". It will ride better than a 121". I do like my '06 Apex GT, but it's still a 121", & in close spaced bumps, it falls in, whereas my Vector LTX bridges right over.

;)! Thank you for that response Catman! Based off your recommendation, an Attak might be the better value and overall fit. The Apex is the fancier model with electric adjustment. I guess the electronic device could become an issue vs manual?

To say he won't find a vector isn't 100% accurate. I bought a 2010 vector ltx with 500 miles for $4800. They even tossed in an otter sled for free.

I ride anApex 08 Anniv edition came off and still own a 2004 viper s. The Apex is the trail cruiser elite with olins all around. Only thing better is if it had power steering. Takes a little to get dialed in but well worth it. If you find one for 5G you will be doing real good.

Bet you can't find another one.

Looked at two the same day. One wasn't the ltx though it was just a standard with a 121" which is why I bought the one I did. Of course I'm in AK where everyone owns a sled so there's a larger used market then most places I bet.

Think you gotta ask yourself if you are 'sit down' rider or do you like 'standing' once in awhile.

The Apex and Vector chasis are sit down rides. Not well suited to stand on. Seat is low and so are most bars.

The Nytro, has a deeper tunnel and higher seat. Bars are also higher. So to transition to standing is way easier with your legs right under the body.

The power of the Nytro is great, but its power band starts to peater-out past 140kph as it works it way to 160kph. The motor on the Vector feels pretty similar to the Nytro (casue they are, the Vec isnt as snappy off the line cause its cammed differently and clutching is more aggressive but is capable of the same top end as the Nytro). The Apex powerplant is in a league of its own. That thing has crazy power.

I found the Nytro chasis to be more comfortable to spend a full day on - imo. Being locked in one position on the Vector chasis was hard on the back and the legs got stiff being stuck in one position. On the Nytro you can stand for a bit, stretch the legs and on bumpy sections the legs can support your back way easier. This is what I discovered after riding both. I am 5'11" and 180lbs.

Hope this helps

Myself I sold my trusty old 2 stroke 2002 Viper in December. It was kind of a somber feeling being it was a stellar performer. I had that thing dialed in. I knew all along I was going to get a Apex type machine being I rode with guys that had them and have always loved the motor. I chose a 2007 Attak GT. I prefer the 136 in these machines. They hook up better, bridge bumps better and generally are faster stock for stock than the short track Apex. The 2008 40 yr. LTX is a nice machine, my friend rides one but after switching back and forth from mine to his last week I would say it was a wash on ride quality. Now I have also spent some time on a std Attak with the coil over shocks and their ride quality is a bit less than the GT versions.

I have ridden over 15,000 miles on 2 different 07 Attak GT sleds. It has the electric controlled Ohlins in the rear with the 136 inch track. This sled will go down as one of the best riding sleds Yamaha has built in the last 10 years. We added copper exhaust donuts, excell wheels to increase hyfax life and a rear heat exchanger to help with cooling when conditions are less than ideal. I keep a set of gauntlets when the temps are below zero. I love my 14 Apex XTX but if I could not buy another sled I could ride my 07 for the next 10 to 15 years and love every minute of it.

Wow, that is what I love about this forum. So many people willing to help another Yamaholic make a good decision! :rocks:

First, Grimm I would love an SRX 120...for my daughter that is...sweet little machine.

This isn't the first high praise I have read about the Attak. See the article below on the 2007 Attak. I hear so many people highly praising the Attak Gt, I think my decision would be made if I could only find one. The only Attak I can find is a 06/07 (not sure) non-GT. Looks like a clean sled but would really prefer the GT suspension. That said, I found one with 5k miles that could be had for $3800. I'm thinking that's an ok deal but for a $500 more I could be sitting on a 7k mile, well maintained 09 FX Nytro 121". I suppose an Attak GT would be the ticket but since their are none to be found, I might have to spend my max on a 08 Apex GT LTX Anniversary or 08 Nytro RTX Anniversary w/ oft 136" extension. Both the Apex and Nytro are about $5200 with 6k miles or go with the value of the aforementioned 09 FX Nytro. For some reason I'm not able to insert the images of these sleds. Anyway...

Sevey, you certainly have me thinking Nytro again. I do enjoy standing at 6' 1" 180lbs the only beef I had on the Viper was the sitting position and the bars were too low to stand comfortably. I'd get a pinched nerve/muscle in my hip with my knees being above my hips for a long time. I definitely think the more upright position would be a bonus but I suppose the simple fix of raising the bars on the Apex/Attak might bridge the gap. Is your Nytro a 121? I'm trying to weigh the 121 vs 136 as well. I'm thinking the 136 would be ideal for me as we do some bluff riding in Western WI. Also would help back home on the beaten trails in SE WI. Obviously the main plus to a 121 is pushing hard through corners which I won't be doing anymore since the accident.

I really appreciate everyone's help. Any final thoughts?

Ice,

the Attak GT I bought was owned by a fella that is 6'1" 200lbs which is my exact size. He had added a 1" riser and added 2" of foam to the factory seat done by an upholstery shop. The thing fits me like a glove and it sure makes standing up much easier when needed.

Not sure what type of rider you are but the Nytro is a whole different machine than a Apex/Attak. My buddy with the 2008 40 yr. Apex Ltx used to have a Nytro SE that was long tracked to 136, Ulmer clutching, Xcell exhaust....and a host of other goodies. The machine really took the bumps well but I thought it steered hard and was a bear in the corners. I have also test rode several newer Nytro machines and thought they handled much the same. I guess it depends what you like. I do know Nytro owners are getting P'ssd because the value of their machines has been dropping being they have DQ'd the model.

PS: I saw a nice 2007 Attak GT (black one) on Craigslist up in Berlin,WI with very low miles for $5500. That's a decent price for a clean low miler and not too far from you.

Journeyman, thanks for the tip on the Berlin Attak. With miles/condition being the same, do you like that price over an 08 Apex GT LTX?
