So, if you buy from the U.S. and bring it into Canada it has no warranty?

There is some misinformation in this thread.
First off there is no duty on machines designed to travel on snow so dont add in the 6.1% that others were adding.
Second, yes the warranty is void in Canada but is still valid in the United States if you had something major go wrong.

depends which state you buy..michigan has a %6 sales tax that must be paid

There seems to be some confusion on the 6.1% duty. After two phone calls to different border crossings the duty is applicable according to the customs individuals I spoke with.

I just came back yesterday with my new RTX into Ontario.......no duty, only paid RIV fee and GST. No state tx in NY either.
I will say, every customs person I talked to told me a different story.

If you are exporting to another state or country you would not pay the 6%. Only applies to titled in MI.
I talked to many dealers at the sled show and none of them could come close to the US price. Mind you I guess this is Alberta and there is so much money around here that the dealers don't care.
I personally would rather have bought from a Canadian dealer but money talks and the difference pays for many upgrades.

Also talking with a dealer at the show he did not say that they would not honour the warranty he just said it would have to be submitted to Yamaha USA.
So I did some checking on the Yamaha Canada web site and it in no place specifies that a sled has to be bought in Canada to honour the warranty only that it must be a new sled purchased from Yamaha.
Here is the link, see for your self:
http://www.yamaha-motor.ca/warranty/index.php
Or the extended warranty:
http://www.yamaha-motor.ca/warranty/index.php?group=S
My main question here is why can these OEM's not drop their prices for the Canadian dealers to better reflect the dollar?

I just got back this evening. I paid the RIV fee ($200) and the GST no state tax. I know CND dealers are starting to bring down there price alot. I think I heard of one dealer in Winnipeg, Mb almost matching the U.S price. However when I ordered mine in September that was not the case, my local dealer told me he could drop it $400 buck to 13,200. Still to far away from U.S. price. I would loved to have supported the local dealer and still would have probably for a $1000 difference. The warranty is only 1 year unless they were snow checked and 3-4000 is alot of warranty. Anyway that's all in the past I am just excited to start riding in a couple of weeks! On a side note, we stayed the weekend and did some other shopping and I found that the price of clothes, electronics etc where not that great of deal at all (Minot ND) You really had to watch what you were buying, I did get some great deals on some craftsman tools though.
