I think Yamaheater Rock makes a "starter saver" which detects a stuck relay.
He has an LED indicator light that stay lite if the relay is stuck closed. I've also installed these but there's a second problem that occurs when the relay fails. The relay is a switch that connects power directly from the battery to the starter without any disconnect or fuse to protect the circuit. If the relay fails closed the only way to stop the starter motor is by disconnecting the battery which requires removing the panel and having tools available. A quick disconnect for the battery would be useful in this situation. However, periodically replacing the starter relay as a normal maintenance item might be a better solution to the problem.

A quick disconnect in the red wire between the relay and the starter correct? If so, I'm installing one and making it accessible. I now know what the sled sounds like after the sled has started and the starter HAS NOT disengaged. It is very noticeable now that "I know what to listen for".
I think that part of normal yearly maintenance will be to replace the relay. Call it "trip insurance" if you want.
Sled is back home where it belongs....it belongs on a trail but.....

They make quick disconnect connectors for batteries. You can find them on eBay for under $20

As always....thanks Grizz! I'm thinking of some sort of on/off switch to mount where the jumper leads are.

He does......and not terribly expensive.......get ahold of him and avoid future issues.......I think Yamaheater Rock makes a "starter saver" which detects a stuck relay.

But as grizztracks said, it won't work in my case. Otherwise I'd be all over it.
