I think you are right Mighty about the Mach Z being faster, but I expect that in a quarter mile the Apex may be to quick for it. Half mile the Mach Z for sure.

That's an interesting observation. Perhaps that will hold true? For what it's worth: Good or bad, Yamaha still makes the ONLY 4-stroke sled worth having.

Stinkfinger,
You say your old riding buddy thinks you are foolish for buying before trying. He makes it sound as if he got to try out each of his sleds before he bought it. Fact is you (and me as well as many others) made a well informed buying decision based on first hand riding experience and repors/feedback from several TY members (Thanks to Mr. Sled and all test drove). So, unless he has a better source upon which to make his buying decisions, it seems to that he is really the foolish one.
Enjoy your new ride!

Thanks for all the positive replies. I put a 1000 miles last year on a rev and loved it. It was the most fun i've had on a sled in a long time (maybe it was because it was a rental). It made riding the junked out trails at the end of the day fun. railrode beds with 1' stutter bumps at 70 would almost make you laugh inside your helmet. The faster you pushed it the better it rode. Me and another rev rider kept this pace for a few miles an the poo's and yami's couldn't hang they were all way,way back.
I was sold on a rev, but could not handel doo's engine issues and all that homely plastic. I hope so badly that this new Yami delivers the goods. At times i feel i'm going against my better judgement. I want to hear from rev owners who got a chance to ride the 06's, any out there?
thanks

Its funny sooo many like you , actually like the rev... I think its like riding a crotch rocket on the snow... IT rides GREAT... but at the expense of puting all the abuse threw your arms.... ITS like riding a jackhammer... After 10 minutes of riding it i could not feel my hands anymore.. My buddy who rides all cats wanted to switch to a REV but after his test ride he said.. NO WAY>.. HE got major arm pump and hatted it very much.. not too mention it feels way sloppy in the stearing and the plastic is SUBPAR!!
Im not bashing SKidoo but from my experinces i and my friends did not like it.. TO EACH HIS OWN!!
ALL of my friends like my Yamaha even though it is heavier than there sleds!

It's sounds like you are bashing ski-doo. Ski-doo makes an awesome chassis and the REV is no exception to that. The are light and strong and feel very tight. The only downfall ski-doo has it is two stroke crappy motors. If you can't see that, then you are too biased to be giving an opinion. :ORC

You are soooooo wrong.. I am so unbiased it isnt funny.. I own both a polaris and a yamaha... and my brother owns both a skidoo 583 (which for its day is a great sled)and a polaris 500 two up.. He is currently buying my 04 warrior..
Most of my friends ride Arcticcat and were looking into swithching to skidoo because of all the great things we all heard about them... So we all took a day off of riding to go and test drive the new 05 skidoo models.. There was 6 of us total and we had two test sleds a MXZ800 renigade and a REV 600... I liked the Renigade better than the standard REV but like i said before... The seating position is TOO FAR FORWARD in my opinion... I just could not ride that sled for more than 20 minutes tops before i couldnt feel my fingers-hands and forearms because of the vibration and jackhammering of the front end.... ALL of my friends felt this way also even without any of us talking about it for a whole hour after the test ride.. We test rode the sleds on very nasty trails.... They did handle very well and everyone agreed on that..

Before getting the RX1 in 05 I had a 04 600 sdi. Great slead . Had no problems with it. Could easily put 150 miles on a day with out getting sore. Best MPG of any sled s I have ever owned . Was even better than my RX1. 21- 22 mpg . Poor day was 19 mpg. Got 4 new yamahas on order. Love the 4 stroke but the REV. was great just not as GOOD as the 4 stroke. The mono rear is best ride out.

On the vibration, Compared to a 4 stroke, I would agree. But compared to any other two stroke out there, it is far superior to all the other sleds as far as virbration is concerned. They out handle any sled on the market, besides the Apex. If you are comparing to the new Apex, then I would agree that Yamaha has a better sled, especially with the motor, but the REV is probably the best sled out there in all other aspects except for the mills. The ride is impecable and it corners very flat, great power, electronic reverse and a rock solid chassis.

It's a shame about Doo's engines. I remember when they were known for their durability and reliability, no more :ORC
Rotax, Doo must not have agreed with your assesment of a REVs flat handling because they lowered it for 06 to improve that aspect of the sled. In the flyer they mailed me they boasted that by lowering the sled they flattened the cornering and in conjunction with their new ski's they achieved less ski lift.

Well, I do agree with you that it is true what was printed, but I think all they looked at was what most people use the REV for is trail riding and looked how they could improve on it even more than what has already been done to it. There's always room for improvement, but I own an 03, but the 05's that I have drove seem to handle incrediblly well. The problem with most were the skis, they pushed alot with the precision skis, because of the amount of build up that could get caught under the skis, which caused them to float. I believe if they really needed to address the handling in the sled, they would have lowered it in 04 instead of waiting until 06 to do it. Like I said, doo had to do something to it to make it more appealing for 06.

You say it handles better than the SRX and VIPER and ZR500s,600s, and 800s??
WHen did this happen.??.. Sounds to me like youi are more skidoo biased than you lead on to be..LOL
Just about anything handles better than a stock RX-1 so saying it can out handle anything on the snow just wouldnt be fair!
Well atleast you switched to yamaha!!
IN my opionion the REV rides great and handles pretty good... it doesnt handle even close to the VIper i had, but it rides 1,000,000 times better and if it wasnt a rider forward sled it probobly would have been a great choice of a sled for me...
Ive ridden just about any sled made in the past 10 years and the ZRs are still one of the best riding and handling sleds made... Still better than the F series sleds!! ( they ride too rough and dont handle as flat) I Know 6 people who own F series sleds and 10 people who own ZR sleds! The 500s and 800s are damn good sleds , the 600s are only good for about 3500 miles before the motors give up! The F7s are very fast or very sled depending on the day they were made! F6s are very quick up to 100-105 when they top out!! My buddies 05" F7 snopro is about the roughest riding sled ive ridden except for my viper!
COmpared to all the sleds ive ridin... the REVS only ride as good as they do because the put so much pressure on the front suspension which translates all the hammering into your arms, elbows and hands and wrists! Some might be able to take it but i cant... I GUESS IM A GIRLY MAN!! LOL
Take this as what it is... My opinion and the opinoins of about 7 guys and 3 girls!! LOL

Hmmm broad stroke you took there, the 600 twins had a run of bad pistons (pre 2000) . I have a 2000 model with over 4000 miles and I know of a couple more with more than that. Nothing the matter with that motor at all Other than two stroke.
I will agree though that the 2000 up ZR ZL chassis is the best one Cat ever built. Handling is awesome with a ride that light and predictable. In the twisty trails it has few rivals.
