I've never ran ice scratchers. But I suppose it's time to change my thought process.
My hopes are that in questionable snow conditions that I'll be able to continue my ride without being interfered with overheating issues. Happened twice in 5 seasons.
Thoughts on either of these ski mounted or even cable style. Ty.....joe

I find ice scratchers are a must on my Sidewinder even though I have only needed them a couple times a season, then enable you to ride in icy ultra hard packed conditions when cooling is poor.
I have had the ski mount OTTP scratchers on my SW but any type are good as long as they kick up snow and are properly located.

I personaly would stick to skid mounted scratchers, the reason anytime i have had an open hole in a ski mount or an accidental blade of plastic hangen from the ski its throwing crap up in face once in awhile, just mt 2 cents worth.

I'm like you in that it's hardly an issue, always looking for the good snow.I find ice scratchers are a must on my Sidewinder even though I have only needed them a couple times a season, then enable you to ride in icy ultra hard packed conditions when cooling is poor.

If you notice my pic it doesn't seem to have a place for the arm to rest when not in use. But I observed a video just now that shows a little bracket on the rear, to mount on ski for scratcher when not being used.
Sorry, Bob. I stand corrected

Skid mounted scratchers are the way to go, there are two options from ski-doo that will allow you to reverse with them down that easily fit on the sidewinders. Thats what I used on my 22 last season. Better to have and hardly use then to need and not have.

Definitely with you on that. And yes, I can remember a chunk of ski hanging off a past sled that unintentionally worked perfect. Lol.I personaly would stick to skid mounted scratchers, the reason anytime i have had an open hole in a ski mount or an accidental blade of plastic hangen from the ski its throwing crap up in face once in awhile, just mt 2 cents worth.

Right on. Last year I had a 3-day trip where conditions never changed. On the third day I went into limp mode that could not be explained.Skid mounted scratchers are the way to go, there are two options from ski-doo that will allow you to reverse with them down that easily fit on the sidewinders. In the end I feel my tunnel was loaded with ice and the heat exchangers weren't able to do the job. Idk???

I prefer skid-mounted to keep flying debris behind saddle/windshield areas. Really like Dura-Flex cable style mounted just behind the front outside wheels. Tips are replaceable. They dig up so much that most of the time I only one down. I bought the little rail-mounted hangar to store them.

I like those as well. My second choice in finding a solution. And will definitely consider after I try the ski mount style.I prefer skid-mounted to keep flying debris behind saddle/windshield areas. And the only reason I didn't just order the rail mount cables is: Yes, I'm afraid to drill into them. There, I said it. Lol.
I'll look to see if I can mount the ice storm product as far back as possible.

One rig design makes no drill mounts for rail mounted scratchers.I like those as well. My second choice in finding a solution. And will definitely consider after I try the ski mount style.

Right from cat the riots all come wth rail mounted scratchers, real nice built in feature, most of the time only need to use one side to keep things in check.

Well, Brendan.... because of my lack of confidence as to where to mount the scratchers, my rails would look like Swiss cheese. Lol. You just don't know who you're dealing with. Haha.Right from cat the riots all come wth rail mounted scratchers, real nice built in feature, most of the time only need to use one side to keep things in check.

The ski doo ones are quite a simple install. Only one hole drilled on each side, two existing holes line up.Right on. Thanks for posting that info up! I'll check them out and save.

I watched the vid on install. You'd still have one other hole to drill for the hangers. Right or no?The ski doo ones are quite a simple install. Only one hole drilled on each side, two existing holes line up.
