2006 Attak with 10700 miles. Front pivot arm broke. That will obviously be replaced but what do you guys think about the piece on the rail?? I don't believe that it can be welded...or can it? I don't know how long its been broke or if the busted pivot arm did it. Probably did. I'll probably end up replacing but wanted some opinions...I think it cost about 100 bucks.

The rail part isn't broken, its your reinforcing brace thats broken not a big job to change and YES I would change it to releive stress on your main rail which are a PAIN to change, for you pivot arm replace it with a '08 or newer its BEEFED up and a good upgrade here's a pic of it...

Its not what caused your pivot to break, its a weakness on those style of pivot arm and 1 thing you have to make sure is that your spring and shock is CALIBRATED to your riding style so it doesn't BOTTOM out hard! and cause stress cracks and eventually break! like yours did. I have a freind that owns a RX1 2005 with original PIVOT arm 13.000kms and counting and beleive me he rocks that sled around pretty good and has it dailed in PERFECT, I myself put on 12.000kms on my '05 before trading it in for my '08 without any issues on pivot arm...I upgraded my spring and got my shock revalved to my riding style and performed well and I still see my old sled riding around good and strong, MONO'S have to be fined tuned or else...and their not made for DITCHBANGING either. ;)!

Shock has been revalved for my wieght and riding style and I have the larger spring on it. I think its a matter of the miles on the sled. I was going to take it out this summer and have a welder friend strengthen it but it was not to be!!!!

Friend of mine has a 06 Attak and his busted at 7000 miles. He also has the Big Boy spring and its revalved but he also wieghs about 300 lbs.

4700 miles this season and my repairs amounted to: 1 oil change, 1 idler wheel and now this. I have no problem with that!

Carry on and have your welder buddy fix it if he's any welder at all. this can be stiffened easy. This will be a hack of alot cheaper than buying updated parts. Simple fix!!!

I would be a little suprised to see that brace be the only thing broken. I would closely inspect the rails and look for stress cracks. MAke sure you clean it up well before doing so as it may be difficult to see some of them. Focus on the areas around the bolt holes as these are higher stress areas.

BTDT - It won't hold up. The part will become work-hardened and it will crack at the weld. If you re-enforce it, the next weakest point on the arm & rail will break.

PLEASE - TAKE THE SLED TO THE DEALER AND HAVE THEM REPORT IT TO YAMAHA, MAYBE EVEN AS A FACTORY DEFECT.

Y.E.S. WILL NOT cover the rail !!! :o| :o| :o| :o| I wouldn't be surprised if they drop the arm too.

BTW: Clean the grease from the rear scissor bolt are and see if it's cracked there too?

Brian, they should cover it. Pat covered my shock...

I know they SHOULD - but their immediate response is: Rails are not covered.

I'm not going to spend $575 on factory replacement parts, only to have the SAME parts break again. If they decide to cover it great! It will help with the resale :tg:

I just took off all the parts and found no more breakage. The pivot arm was busted on the other side also and I found some cracks up where it mounts on the tunnel. I am ordering the updated arm. I'm bringing the other 2 suspension parts to my welder friend to get reinforced and then may get all powder coated.

I have no warrenty on sled. Its an 06 with almost 11,000 miles. The part of the rail that is broke is only a $90.00 part. I could probably get away with not replacing it but I'm not going to do that.

I don't have a problem with this sort of maintenance. The sled had NEVER let me down. With 11,000 miles, I could justify getting a new one but at $10,000 for basically the same thing? I'd rather spend $1000.00 on maintenance parts. I do go on saddlebag trips in Quebec and would not question its reliability. How many other sled manufacturers can you say that about??!!!!

Budweiser, that's a great post, and exactly how I feel about my sled. With all the complaining lately about the (lack of) new models, and this problem or that problem, it's pretty refreshing to hear someone recognize just how reliable these sleds are. In just over 2 seasons and 8000 miles, the only things I've replaced are the wheels, slides, and belt and changed the oil a couple of times. That's pretty minor compared to what could be. Imagine a Cat with 8000 miles on it! Any way, thanks for a positive post.
