Stock clutching will run 3/8 from edge in area "C". To get the belt to the top you need to buy the overdrive shieve or have the shieves cut so the two will meet closing the gap at the top. You also need to have the heix cut down to the bushing so the secondary will open more to allow the belt to ride further up the primary.
ESS, have you inspected the buttons on the secondary? Bad buttons will stop the helix from rotating. I also use the red Dalton spring and it works really well.

I'm following what you a saying but somewhat confused about getting the belt to ride higher in the primary. I took the spring out and pushed the sheaves together and the belt comes to about an 1/8 from the top so I'm thinking that maybe its a ramp or roller problem. Maybe the primary spring is coil binding, will look into that also.
I will look at the secondary more closely tonight to verify the coil binding and the interference of the helix. The slide buttons just barely show signs of wear.. I do understand that if the secondary doesn't open far enough the primary can't completely close also causing the belt to ride lower in the primary. Where would I get a Dalton Red Spring and what do they cost?

I did some more testing today. first bought new buttoms.
I made a few rips with the pink spring and a few with the red one. The speed is same with either. But the speed is up about 4 mph on speedo from last time out. Still the same amount of snow on bare ice. The different thing I did this time was to put washers under the helix to spce it out further. I Had the helix cut, but not all the way to the bushing, just 100 thou. Washers helped. Also this might give more room for less chance of coil bind.

remove the helix, put the washers on the studs, install helix.
