So, what is the fastest top-end speed anyone has ran with a 22/38 gearing? Snow or ice, but list all of your other mods as well.

I went 112 mph on GPS bone stock last year on packed snow in the ditch.

Ulmer Racing told me the best gearing is 22/38 or 23/39 but the fastest it will go is 114mph. I need a little more than that or I think I would have changed it by now.

I do the 112 mph under crappy conditions this year and 113 mph with the 23/38 it just took longer to get there.I am sure on ice the 23/38 will pull bigger mph but only under perfect conditions, unless you have a whole bunch of mods to be able to pull it.

I justed talked to Ulmer again and he indicated that the 23/40 gear would work better or 22/38 for that matter, because of the weight transfer that the pro-active produces, but the mono does not. He said for a 1000 ft run the 23/40 or 22/38 would work in a mono if you had the traction ie.192 studs, then yes there would be a gain, but with 144 studs in the mono, he feels it would just spin too much and it would take alot to catchup. So for now I will keep my 24/40 and change it if I go to the snow drags.

I have used a pipe wrench on the splined area on the secondary side, and no it does'nt make up the spline.

use a 1 1/16th wrench on your drive axle, you have enough axle exposed to clear your track so spin it till the wrench hits the ground then you can force like hell and itll come right off

If you are going to do that, its OK, *BUT* You must make sure that you remove the chain tensioner so that you don't break off the post. Likely wouldn't break off the post anyways, but it has for a select few. Use a hose clamp to take up the slack in the chain.

23/40 w/o reverse was the lowest and fastest gear ratio I tested on my 06 Apex. Along with 192 studs, and +2.4g tip weight in the primary the thing absolutley ripped without sacrificing top end.

87, I'm not positive, but I thought you could get heavier rivits for it. I remember having this discussion with Viper34, who did the clutching on the Apex and attack for Yamaha.
