I HAVE AN 02 GRIZZLY 660 THAT IS STOCK EXCEPT FOR ITP 589'S ON STOCK RIMS. I PURCHASED THE BEAST NEW AND TOOK IT FOR A RIDE IN THE GEORGIA WOODS IN MID SUMMER LOOKING FOR A PERSIMMON ORCHARD . AFTER IDLING FOR SEVERAL MINUTES IN THE WOODS, I NOTICED THE TEMP LIGHT BURNING. THINKING IT WAS BECAUSE THE MACHINE WAS NEW THE LIGHT WENT OUT AFTER A MINUTE AND IT DIDNT COME BACK ON I DISREGARDED IT AS A FLUKE. IT DIDNT HAPPEN AGAIN FOR A YEAR OR SO AND NEVER DID IT EXCEPT IN HOT WEATHERBUT NOW DOES IT EVERY TIME I GO OFF ROAD. THE MACHINE WENT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THE FIRST SERVICE AND A VALVE ADJUSTMENT AND HAS BEEN IN FOR OVERHEATING PROBLEMS TWO TIMES IN T5HE LAST 12 MONTHS.THE GRIZZ HAS BEEN RETROFITTED WITH THE SO CALLED HEAT KIT, HAS BEEN REJETTED, KOOL ICE HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE RADIATOR, A NEW THERMOSTAT AND GUESS WHAT? STILL OVERHE3ATS I REPLACED THE WATERPUMP THIS WEEK FOR ANOTHER $154 BONES AND GUESS WHAT? STILL OVERHEATS HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD OVERHEATING PROBLEMSWITH THE 02 /660 AND IF SO WHAT CAN I DO? NEW LARGER RADIATOR AND FAN OR WHAT? HELP HOT GRIZZLY OWNER!

I would also look for a plugged radiator.

You'll need to remove the front rack and plastic panel to allow you better access to the rear of the radiator. Spray a hose, not high pressure, from the back side until you see water flowing smoothly out the front of the radiator. Just spraying through the front doesn't work, been there, done that.

I've often found my radiators to be somewhat plugged even though they look clean. Putting a light behind the radiator should allow you to look through it to see if there are any obstructions.

While you're looking, check to see if any of the fins have been bent over due to debris or maybe a pressure washer. They can be opened up with "careful" use of a small, flat blade screwdriver.

Oh yeah, be sure the fan operates.

I agree with SledderSteve

I took off my front fender to repair a crack in the plastic and Man... my radiator is full of goo! I am going to hose it out from the back (Fan) side before putting the fender back on.

Is it possible you have a faulty temp sensor? I've had this happen before with heat and oil sensors. Just a thought.

Repy to Camo 7 and everyone else. I appreciate the help... it was a clogged radiator, it looked clean but was dirty in the fan area. I put a light behind the radiator and it looked clean but was dirty around the fan area. The machine was actually boiling over. I removed the radiator and cleaned it with a water hose and an air hose. I have ridden it 3 times now and no overheating. thanks for the help.
