Hi,

I saw lots of posts re Overheating Apex but can't find anything recent (2 years or less). This was my first season with my Apex '09 and I have had overheating issues. While the issue does not occur when snow conditions are favourable, it happens very quickly when they are not and since the seasons don't seem to be getting better....

My first set of scratchers (installed off the runners) disappeared within 1-2 hours of use so I am going to install another set in the steering/suspension in the front. I am hoping this will help.

I have a tunnel heat exchanger which I understand was likely added. I flushed and replaced the coolant with Engine Ice. I also extended the snow guard flap at the back so it drags and kicks the snow back in the track and back heat exchanger.

I am curious if anyone did anything else to help this issue. For instance, has anyone changed the Radiator thermostat? Would running lower octane fuel help?

Thank you.

Would check for air locked in the system when you did the flush and replace of fluid.
There should be a bleed screw in the crossover heat exchanger.

I was very careful to get the air out when I filled it up but I can check. I assume the crossover heat exchanger you refer to is the rear one and all I need to do is left the rear end higher then the coolant tank?

Check the flow of the system before bleeding it again. If the boards get hot starting at your fight foot and then to the rear cooler and then to your left foot then I would say the flow is good.
Is the yellow light coming on while riding or when stopped idling?

There is no need to run high octane in an '09 but it should not hurt anything. surprised you are having issues with fresh coolant and a rear heat exchanger... I never had trouble after just replacing glycol from factory with 50/50 on stock set up. On my boosted apex I put the cable scratchers on the rails and just ran them down all season and they are still in good shape they have replaceable ends so when I do wear them down I can just replace the ends you do need to make sure they are jam nutted tight or they will get loose and the tips will fall off easy solution is just to make sure they are tight when you install and use a little blue loc-tit on the mounting bolts. I got mine from BOP. never seen a high temp light on the boosted sled with them.
