Hi,

I inadvertently left my parking brake on my 05 RX-1 for a few hundred feet before I realized that I had it on.

1) Will this cause the brake to be out of adjustment?

2) Does the parking brake use the same braking system as the regular brake?

3) Is there anything that I can check to see if everything is okay?

Thanks for any help that you can give me.

;)!

The parking brake is a separate cable operated system. If the parking brake still works fine then there is no problem if it doesn't hold properly then you need to adjust the cable where the parking brake attaches to the lower part of the chaincase. If anything you wore the parking brake pads down a lil but I doubt it very much. Lots of people are painting the underside of their parking brake lever A bright colour so it is easily visible.

If you look at your brake rotor, you will see a separate brake caliper mounted on the lower half of the rotor that is cable operated by the lever as opposed to the hydraulically operated brakes. You just wore down the pads a bunch and probably ate a ton more gas in doing so. I would readjust them unless the pads look so low that they should be replaced. I would love to find a way to rig a light to that lever, I did the same thing once but it was for only a couple of hundred feet to my shed.

I like the idea of painting it a bright color.

If anything, you may have slightly degraded the life of your drive belt. Did you smell any rubber burning as you drove with the E-Brake on.

Parking Brake.

Thanks for all the feedback and good suggestion on adding color to the brake lever.

I didn't smell any rubber burning. The sled just didn't seem to move as easy as it should and that was when I looked down and saw that I had the parking brake on. I had just unloaded and was driving from the parking lot at a slow speed to the trail which was about 100 ft. away.

Thanks.
