20 mins into my ride just then my sled strarted to make a slightly deeper, throatier sound from the exhaust, I stopped to have a look, it was dark outside so I noticed the exhaust pipe under the seat from the engine to the muffler was glowing red hot! The sled seems to idle and run normal, no warning lights. I let it cool down and made another 1/2 mile wot run, stopped, same thing, glowing red.
Top speed is like 10kph slower than the other day but snow conditions are little different. Looking into the tail pipe I see small holes that look to be plugged with packing, is this normal?
Is it normal for the exhaust to get that hot?!?!?

i think this is why they opened up the tunnel, so snow will cool it, i don't think it's a good idea to close the tunnel
I HAVE A YAMAHA YFZ450 FOURWHEELER AND ITS PIPE IS ALWAYS RED HOT WHEN IM RIDIN HARD SO I IMMAGINE ITS NORMAL.

Next time someone gets a chance, on a night ride just have a peek at your pipe and see if yours gets red rot, I sure hope this is normal. Thanks guys!

Could be designed to run this way which would explain the open hole in the tunnel allowing snow to hit it to cool it down. The resulting water that it makes though is a problem as it falls off and forms ice all over the place.

My raptor 700 ATV was doing the same thing, When i uncorked the exhaust, it cooled way down. I think the the reason for the heat may be the restrictive exhaust holds the heat in the pipe. my 2C

my homemade sheilds that i made help alot, almost a non issue
I have covered my hole completely. Just to se what happens. I cant ride it now due to no snow. But im going up to the mountains over the holidays to get som miles on it. I will take some pictures to show what happens with the snow/ice buildup. And if there is any issues with the heat i will let uou know!

red hot pipe
I think that the pipe getting red hot is normal and is probably why the tunnel is open. All my YZ dirt bikes I have had over the years have all done that. If you start them up and run them hard at night all of their header pipes (had the 400, 426 and 450) would glow red hot. I assume they did this during the day too while racing, but you just can't tell during the day light in the summer.
Getting mad at this weather. Got my new Phazer FX sitting in the trailer all studded, ready to go and can't ride as there is no snow anywhere in Michigan or anywhere near it. Worst weather ever. And it just figures that it's the year that I bought a new sled and want to ride in the worst way.
