I have recently entered the world of snowmobiling. At the beginning of the season I purchased a new 2009 FX Nytro RTX. So far i have about 1000kms on my machine, i have fallen in love with snowmobiling but i hate my Nytro. From reading this site i now realize that there is a lot of tweaking needed to get the Nytro to handle properly. My problem is that I am mechanically illiterate. I have read 100's of suggestions but I still have no idea how to fix the handle issue.
I ride 70% on trail and 30% off trail. I weigh 250. I ride fairly aggressive. I find that riding aggressive on trail is scary. I'm sure I'm going to end up in the trees very soon.
Can someone please help. If i can't sort out the issues i will have a different sled next season.

New to sledding and your on a Nytro??
Man, I've been riding for over 30 years.
Even after I got it all sorted out, this thing will still give you heart palpitations from time to time.
But, that's also why I like it so much.
If you bought this from a dealer, didn't he ask you your experience before selling you a sled of this nature?

Please post your location in your info, so others can help you. If you are near Central WI I can give some pointers. First thing I would do is get new skis, and then get your front shocks redone, or go to the GYTR shocks from a fx nytro, thats what I did. From there you can add triple rate front springs from hygear, to lower the front a little and get it to handle like a race car, lol. I can't help you much with the front air shocks as I never used them much, I am old school and like springs, lol. Hope this helps. Feel free to PM for more help. Also check the sticky threads above for more help............Brian

I wanted a machine with a lot of power. I ride my buddies 800r and have no issues at all. I would have picked a skidoo but i wanted the convenience and reliability of a 4 stroke. I knew what I was getting into as far the power is concerned the problem is the excessive darting. i didn't realize that i would spend $12,000 for something i would have to turn around and fix.

I didn't mean any foul by my last post.
Welcome.
Trying to sort out the Nytro.
The topics go on and on.
I have 3 seasons on one and still looking at ways to make it better for me.
At first I felt the same about the initial investment for a new sled.
But soon became aware that throwing $$ at it has become more than just a hobby.
If it was me and my first sled. trying to go 4-stroke.
I would have picked the new Vector with Fuel Injection.
Super nice sled basically turn key.
If you keep the Nytro, the very best piece of advice I can give.
The sled is kinda top heavy... (there are good reasons for the ride height of this sled)
Throw your body off and lean hard for surprise hairy corners.
It works.

Spend 700.00 dollars and take all of the shocks out of your sled to Hygear and have them put the Sport re-valve/spring package on them with the Tripple rate springs and it will be a new sled and you will be able to ride with confidence.

First few times out on my 08 RTX scared the hell out of me.
Once I got aftermarket skis ( slydogs), 3/8" shim under the rubber and Bergstrom Triple Points, I was extremely happy. It was like a totally different sled. I run @62 psi in my Fox Floats.
One thing I will tell you though is, if you want to ride fast you HAVE to lean a lot in the corners. Stay as far forward as you can and lean. The Nytro is not a lazy mans sled.
I would go through the list of what I did to get it dialed in but, I don't feel like listing it all again. You could do a search of my posts and see what I wrote in the past.
The only thing I am battling now is, inside ski lift from time to time. But I plan on fixing that this summer.
But, if you were going to do 1 thing, go for new skis. The Yamaha ones suck.

First of all, he shouldn't have to spend any $$$ at all to make the sled ride straight. I know what he's talking about, I'm having a heck of a time getting my 08 RTX to track straight on a groomed trail lately, and my gf can't ride it this way. On a few inches of soft or fresh snow, no problem, but on a hard packed, freshly groomed trail, it's like riding a wild animal ! I switched to Slydog race skis right away when I bought the sled 3 years ago after knowing that the Yamaha skis weren't the best for handling, but I'm getting tired of the excess darting after trying numerous adjustments. Alignment changes, shimming, suspension adjustments, nothing's worked for me yet this year. I bought new Float X shocks and oilite bushings, and that didn't help either. I think it's just the nature of this sled with the added weight over the skis. I'm hopefully going to try a 2010 RTX SE soon and compare, but even my 2010 MTX SE darts somewhat. I'm more of a ditchbanger and offtrail rider, but I still have to ride groomed trails quite a bit to get to the playgrounds, and the wild ride getting there is growing old on me....

Thanks, but I'm done spending $$$ on this sled, and I'm definitely not buying another set of skis for it. What gets me is that I ride with a couple guys who have an F1000 SnoPro and a D8, both on stock skis/carbides, and neither of them have any issues at all with darting on groomed trails. I rode both their sleds, they track true and straight, and take the turns very good also. This tells me that it's a weight balance issue more than anything. I wish I could soften up the rear suspension to see if that helps, but I need stiff settings for big bump riding and bottoming resistance over jumps. On the other hand, the D8 looks like it's wearing a saggy diaper in the rear when someone just sits on it, and the F1000 isn't much of a big banger either, guess it's tough to have it all in one complete package....

I have ridden with snow trackers on the stock and mountain skis in all conditions and my XTX does not dart...A lot cheaper then a new set of skis ...BTW I have the aggressive ones.

Agreed set up is necessary and key to your weight and riding style. After you set up properly, one of the biggest improvements made was the addition of the C&A Extreme skis with 6 inch carbides. My son can know fly through the woods and winding tight trails. Lots of changes to get it right, but once it is dialed in, you will love it!!!
