Pole Cat's slow and broke, "Mach Stock fast"

Slowpoke.

You got a slow one as well as mine, my buddie whips my #*$&@ every time we turn them, at first we where stock now Iam just trying to play catchup. This is the first out of about 17 new sleds this has happened to me.Bill

Im still trying to figure out how some of you get such high top speed numbers out of your sleds.. (must all be on paper thin snow or glare ice)

highest speeds ive ever seen on my sled was 114 on bare pavement with a dusting of snow, and 109 on the dreammeter on a actual trail..

Figuring the 10% the speedos are off.. i was running around 100mph..

I held my old Rx-warrior with the ecp kit anc clutching WFO for over 5 miles once in Paradise Mi. and the highest speed i ever saw was 119 on the dreammeter.. my apex hasnt ever seen that..

Im on my 3rd 4 stoke.. my rx-warriors would break 114+ on the dreammeter pretty easily.. But i never saw the 130-135 that alot of people were seein on there speedos at the time either..

There is no way i had 3 slow sleds in a row..

you must have a low Hp motor

Doesnt really make sense because all of my sleds ran incredible to 100, than almost stop accerating completely..

Id love to be able to race a comparible apex on the same conditions to see how my sled compares.. Maybe its conditions more than anything..
I can run 123-126 on the DM consistently on hard packed snow, not ice... That was last year. I have not had a top end run this year, since my new clutching changes. I will let you know how I do....

Temps were -6 degrees celcius. I weight 165 without gear.

Welter, are you a big guy? How about the rest of you seeing these big MPH numbers? Maybe the speed differences have to do with temps, elevation and combined weight of rider/sled in addition to surface conditions.

I'm a big guy @ 275 fully geared (alot of survival gear in back pack) and my '03 SCRX-1 Mtn with a 162" x 15" x 2" track will hit 99 on the dream meter @ 8500' elevations with stock '03 Mtn gearing 8 lbs boost on a freshly groomed trail with temps around 25F.

No need to worry, there is no way an Apex is a 120+ mph sled out of the box so no need to wonder why you don’t see these numbers. Many may see these speeds on radar or Gps, but doesn’t come without allot of tuning and changing components. The ripsaw track is a great multi purpose track, but its gotta go if you want to pull high speed radar runs. Adding about 12 lbs of 1.325 studs to a ripsaw track will again increase rotating mass and kill some top end. Long travel suspension is again a culprit to rob speed. Lowering the sled and trueing/setting the suspension will give an extra few mph as well as finding the best clutching and gearing combo. With limited hp, finding the best mechanical advantage between clutching and gearing will also steal a few mph. I’ve seen an SRX gain major top speed while actually gearing down and recalibrating the clutching. All you can do is test test and test to find that magical combo, but usually comes at a trade off somewhere in the power band where you either have a drag sled or a top speed monster.
I think its safe to say that a normal Apex is a 110-114 mph sled out of the box on glair ice. If you want more then you need to reduce resistant and get the clutches shifting for top speed.
I think we all want an 120 mph well tunned SRX we seen in the past, with the suspension and traction of an Apex, but you can’t obviously have both.
I usually see 110-112 true mph with my Apex and once seen 118mph (gps) with the wind Gods pushing me from behind. I like a good 660’ drag sled so I’m not setup for top speed. Wish I can have both, but I hate changing my track for just a radar run. If we don’t get more snow, I’ll be putting on a speed track or better yet, an asphalt track lol

JMO..

Speed

First ride on my 05 RX1 today. We have about 4"s of snow. I run the sled down the shoulder of a state hwy today. Not the best of conditions, 3"s of frozen slush, snow. My sled has Ted Jennetys clutching and air box mod and studded. She hit 106 on the dm in a vey short distance. Then I hit a hard packed gravel road that is very short. I hit 110 mph on the dm and then got out of it to shut down. Ted said his set up is not a high speed setup so I don't know how much faster she will go. It has stock gearing.

DANO!....Ill be up this weekend....you want to head over to oxtongue sunday maybe?..fred should be up sat....

call my cottage or PM me bud,

speeds

I just got back from the u.p 20 minutes ago. My 06 attack can hit 126 on the dreameter on hardpack, and will go a consistent 112-115 on the rail grades. I'm 185 with gear probably. The lowest I've seen is 109 on the meter when pinnned. All stock.

Hey Dan, I was thinking on heading to the oxtongue on maybe Saturday since I have to work on Sunday. Regardless, I'll get ahold of you and maybe you can check your ice on Marry Lake?

I'm gonna have to trailer, so doesn't really matter where I go.

Have a good trip

Dan

Drove buy Mary Lake on Saturday after pricing a job .. she was wide open as well in front of me on Old Hwy #117 Lake of Bays ,, but Tues Morn it was frozzzzen as far as I could see including east and west side of Bigwin..." Ps If you guys are going to Oxtounge Sat morn.. Algonquin Snow club is holding a breakfast meeting,,, bacon eggs, $4.00@ 10am Spring Lake Resort right on Hwy #60 , 1 mile east of the Beacon, Everyone welcome, Right Hournable Scott Hayden (TRIBE LEADER)will be speaking.

hey welter me and you are about the same weight i might be a little more but anyway best i seen on dm on snow covered resevior is 107.now i went down snow covered rode and got up to 114 and was still pulling like a frieght train i have no doubt i could have hit the 120's.that was last year bone stock this year i have stud's and allen's clutch kit.it just seems to me that it don't take much for some of these sleds to lose top end on SNOW. but i can't complain i raced alot of sled's last year and beat them i have not yet raced a mach i hope i get to just to see how well i do and would like to race a stock f1 if i can find one thats not blown up

Hey there,

I guess i might be able to eek out a couple of more mph's but i was on the assiniboine river... hard to find a run strait and smooth enought to let her get all the legs she has.

i will report it my GPS gets any faster.

cheers
