Poor fuel mileage, any ideas?

Clutched only, no gearing change. I didn't have the problem with the fuel mileage last year and had the clutch kit in it. I am only going back to the stock clutching to see if it helps for this weekend.

Remember that clutching does in effect change gearing.... so that could be some or all of it.... :4STroke:

I ride with an F-7 his speedo is spot on mine reads high like everyone else with a RX; at the end of a ride if we go around 100 mi. his will read 100 and mine 104 I don't think the mileage can be accurate if the mph is off; besides your only talking about .04 miles if your getting 10 to a gallon.

GET RID OF THE 2 CYCLE SPRING IN YOUR DRIVE CLUTCH AND PUT A 4 CYCLE SPRING IN IT.
IT WILL RUN SMOOOOTHER AND GIVE YOU MUCH BETTER GAS MILEAGE.

Returned from Millinocket, ME yesterday. Had the stock clutching in the sled, cleaned the air cleaner and coil sticks. One coil was brown on the inside and outside...is that carbon? The air cleaner foam did not look dirty and I did not see belt material come out of it when I washed it, but it did seem to look cleaner when I was done...seemed to see more light through it.

Friday, on hard pack trails, got about 18 mpg...better than I have ever gotten. Saturday in about 6" of fresh snow, got about 13.5 or 14.0 mpg. Much better than the 8 or 9 in Quebec when I started this thread (on basically packed trails). Not sure what made the difference, but would guess it was just a combination of all three.

Riding was excellent. 225 miles Friday and a relaxed 175 on Saturday. Beautiful trails!! (My first time in ME.)

Thanks for the recommendations...I am still going to check the ski and track alignment like was suggested. Will also clean the carbs next Fall even if it runs fine again as I think it can't hurt. Big thing is I need to fix the exhaust...donuts I assume, as the sled is way too loud. Still goes from loud to quiet on its own whenever it feels like it. Not sure if I will get out again this year, but hoping for one more trip to ME before the snow is gone!

Thanks again for the help guys!!!!!
