So I put the first 140 miles on my sled a few weeks ago and the thing never idled right. Checked the fuel screws (suppose to be 2 turns out) all three were different. One was 5 turns, one was 3 1/2 turns and one was 1 1/2 turns. Put them all at 2 turns and it idled fine. Now everytime I slow down and then slighly pick up again, I hear pop, pop, pop, pop a bunch of little backfires. I know this is not right. It is going in tommorrow. Has anyone else had this and have any input.
Also, I have the transfer rod adjusted to have almost as little transfer back as possible and I am still looking at the sky and skii's are lifting bad in the corners. The limiter strap is in the top hole (if there are five). how much will adjusting by 1 hole do, or should I start with 2 holes and transfer a little more with the adjustment bar? Also how much will this affect the ride on the Monoshock skid? I usually don't mess with the limiter strap because it tends to eat up some suspension.

The fuels screws are set that way from factory....supposed to meet emissions by doing this (read this is SUPERTUNER's notes). Book says 2 turns out for all 4 carbs but all RX1's come like that. That pop.pop.pop sound is a indicator that you are running lean. Check you plugs for color. They should be a tan/toasty brown color. If they are white/grey then you are too lean. You could raise the needles by 1 clip and this should help.
DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a carb expert.....Last year I had some problems after I tried to sync my carbs by myself and failed..........(oh....did I mention I am NOT a carb expert???)
Lucky for me I just happen to have an R1 race engine builder about 1 mile from my house who helped me out. We set all screws to 2 1/2 turns and lowered (yes leaned) the needles by 1/2 clip (yes it's possible) and experienced about a 1-2 MPG gain in fuel economy and no loss (noticable) in power or speed on a BONE stock 2003 RX1.
Hope this helps.

I went through the same thing. One notch at a time, I tightened up the limiter strap to one position tighter than the middle.
With the transfer rod set to minimum (turned until it won't turn any more) and the limiter set one tighter than middle there is still a little ski lift, but not enough that I can't steer (maybe 1/2" off the ground on a straight WOT run).
Most trails have enough bumps that the skis hit the ground regularly.
Still has good straight line acceleration - probably down a little from more stock settings.
As far as the idle, mine still isn't 100% perfect. I took it to the dealer and they set the screws 2 turns out as well as synced the carbs. It's much better, but misses every now and then (idle only).

PS....sounds like Almost RX-1 has it set perfectly....that is my goal when adjusting weight transfer....PIN IT and the skis should lift about 1" off the ground.

Thanks for the reply's guys. I'll let you know what the dealer does, by the way the dealer is "Drifter" on here otherwise known as Tim Engle with Beeline Yamaha out of St. Cloud MN. He has taken care of me well, as well as 3 of my friends (2 other RX-1's and a used Doo).
If anyone else is in North Central MN look them up when you need anything.
