Remember back in 02 when the Viper was released and in Yamaha's advertising they showed comparisons between it and motocross bikes? The Viper was a big bump sled, but since it was the "latest and greatest" people had to have one without honestly evaluating their riding style. Then all the complaints that followed about how stiff it was, blah blah.
It has taken Yamaha 5+ years to release another sled attempting to go after the hardcore crowd - like people who think the X-package ski-doos are too soft. On Yamaha's site, under the features section for the new FX Nytro, if you click on the Bump Severity Index - Compare Models they have a nice chart that shows each models intended suspension performance. The Nytro is the only sled that goes up into the EXTREME Bump severity. I suspect most people would be better suited to ride the new Vector.
I just get sick and tired of people complaining about their Apex, current Nytro, or Phazer FX sleds being stiff.
These are performance models made to be pushed, not put-putted down the trail. AND these sleds can't even be ridden that hard (jumping) in my opinion before finding their limits - within the factory adjustment ranges.
So don't get a new FX Nytro unless you plan to pound serious bumps - I don't want to wait 5 more years for Yamaha to make another "hardcore" bump sled because the masses thought they were too stiff! :ORC

I agree with that but my 06 apex RTX is way to soft for my riding style. I bought the sled thinking it was going to be a rough trail sled and ended up bottoming out on every mogul. I can't wait to upgrade to this new mogul masher!

I ride an 02 Viper,I dont think the suspension is all that stiff. It just dont soak up #*$&@,you feel every little and big bump. Ill give the Nytro RTX hell and we shall see how it holds up.

In my opinion, the 06 RTX was way too soft, there was almost no differenciation in suspension capability between apex models that year. Rough trail sleds should at least be capable of mild jumping.
When I got my wife the FX for this year, I assumed that the suspension could be tuned (stiffened) for aggressive riding and while better than the 06 RTX, this model still falls short. Even with the suspension on stiff settings, small jumping will bottom the machine quite harshly. Yamaha recognizes this, and up to this time has simply built what works best for the majority.
The 08 Nytro RTX should have adjustment range for MODERATE trail compliance, yet have the ability to let you pretend you are Malinoski.

Your memory is different from mine I think...there's not many here who have complained that their Yamaha 4 stroke sleds rode too stiff.
On the contrary actually...most everyone with suspension complaints say they bottom too easily, and a bunch are sending out their shocks for revalve or going with stiffer and/or progressive springs.
But maybe you've heard from different people than I have...just my thought on the topic.
Generally I fully agree with ya on your hopes for the new Nytro. I sincerely hope take the jumps and big hits MUCH better than the skids they've been setting up to-date.

I hope this is not the case, but to be honest, I don't think any of the manufacturers offer their ACTUAL snocross skid to the masses. I think even the Doo XPS is "watered down". If anyone can correct me, I'm all ears (eyes)........

I am about 180 suited so if it can handle me in 3-4ft moguls I am SETTT,I am sick of 2 stroke and I am sick of getting beat up on my Viper.

I think that people are giving this sled alot of criticism for what it is. This sled is not for people who want to ride in groomed trails 99% of the time. It is for the younger more agressive crowd who like to find rough trails and jump the sled. If your looking for something tame stick with the apex.

^^ This is true,If your a guy who dont like rough trails this sled isnt for you. I am sure its going to suck on groomed trails becauses its just to stiff.

the nytro will fit my needs perfectly, around here every half mile is an approach to jump over. I just hope its a more stiffer suspension. I actually really loved my viper i just couldnt keep the trailing arms straight on it. I always liked the rear suspension unless i was in the stutter bumps. I hope there isnt people that will buy this sled for the bling factor cause i think there will be some very disappointed people, ecspecially since yamaha is advertising this sled as close to a snowcross sled as possible for the consumer. I think yamaha did a fantastic job on this creation!!

Who said anything about snocross. I have been on trails where the moguls get bad and where I ride my apex rtx bottoms everywhere. I dont think you have to snowcross to enjoy the suspension on this machine. I just dont think you understand what people are talking about !!!?!!!

skoalring11, I should have said the nytro rtx model can be set very stiff and the nytro(base model) is a little more tame. Im not talking about jumping off a house or anything but I know some people that have bought skidoo x models for the look and they were a little on the stiffer side for them. I like to ride hard in the ditches and the nytro rtx seems to be the right sled for me.
