I'm looking into buying powder ski's, but just wondering what brand would be the best?? C&A?? Slydog?? Any brand?? I do lots of back country riding and I also do some trail riding, so I want a pair that hook up good on trail too. Thanks

I have a set of the Slydog Powderhound 7 inch ones and I like them. Good flotation and pretty good on hard pack.

This is my opinion. i live in the country i ride alot of fields, sled trails, drifts, powder, and lakes. i have the slydog powder hounds. 7inch wide and very flexible. im very happy with how they turned out in all snow conditions.of course in powder it doesnt really matter what skis you have they cant grab and the 1ton front end of the nytro will sink a bit. just my opinion. i cant remember how many roks, trees, and roads ive hit or landed on in the last 4 years, but these skis dont chip or crack. love em

Slydog also offer a wider 8 inch version. Apparently they are stiffer and more durable than the 7 inch version.

I am running the SLP Powder Pro and I love them on and off trail. They handle amazing on trail and off trail they always find the surface. As mentioned the Nytro is heavy in the front and some sinking is expected but landing a catwalk over a steep hill into a fluffy drift or nosing right into a pile of powder they always shoot right back to the top right away. Just my opinion and I have not experience with the others to compare to but I have absolutely no complaints with them.

c&a's and slydogs are both proven skis and you will be satisfied with either. Also been hearing good things about the curve skis and new kimpex stealth.

I've tried a lot of skis and Slydog Powderhounds are my ski of choice for powder. C&A were my pick on the trails.
To be fair I have not tried the Curve skis and would like to.

I have the Slydog 8" Powderhounds. Much better than stock Yamaha mountain ski.

I have the 7" slydog powder hound on the nytro and love them no darting on trail and great off trail, ordered the 8" for the xf so see the difference.

I have the Simmon Gen3 and I really like them. Little tougher to side hill with the bigger skis but great floatation. (Gen 1 are ~6.5", Gen 2 are 10", and Gen 3 are 8"). They are pricey but worth it - but they are the skis that people love to hate on here.

Had 7" Powderhounds and they were really good. I only got rid of them because I didnt really need them on my RTX. Lots of float and were still great on the trails with 6" shapers

Where do you ride? If your a west coaster or mountian guy....stick with the 7" or wider skis. If your an east coaster or midwester...stick with the 7" or narrower skis, as you simply don't need all the floatation and its more difficult to bank a wide ski.
I am east coaster and pretty much run 90% off trail in powder and semi set up snow. I run the Slydog 7's on my XTX and Polaris Grippers on my MTX. I ran the stock MTX (2011) skis all last season and really liked them too.
IMHO, they are all good skis, and I would add the C&A XTX's to the pack. The Slydog 7's for excellent at trail riding and fresh powder but on set up or heavy snow, they are very edgy when banking which makes them tricky to manouver. I think it has alot to do with their very thin, knife like edge.
I really liked the stock MTX ski. With 6" carbides, they work very well on both trail and powder, and they are superior to the Slydogs in crud snow.
The polaris grippers are very similar to the MTX stock ski, but about 4 pounds lighter. THey are also readily available over on Snowest or online.
I think no matter what ski you choose, be sure to pick the right amount of carbide as well. Nytro's are useless in the handling department unless they have 5-6" of carbide on the snow.
Good luck

I went from Slydog Powderhound 7's to C&A MTX's, mainly because I got a great deal on them at Hay Days ($280 from the ISOC booth).
I never had any problems with the Slydogs except the cheap plastic screws holding the top of the loops to the skis disappeared the first time out. I've only put about 150 miles on the C&A's but I definitely love the look of them much more than the Slydogs. The loops also seem a bit stronger.
You'll be happy with either ski!
