Power Governor?

Does anyone make governor to dial down the power on a 2008 Nytro? Sounds strange I know. Here is some background, I am in the market for a new sled. I made a deal to sell my Mountain cat 900 this morning. I bought that sled on advice of coworkers saying I am too heavy for smaller ones and that it was a good fit for all around. Well I am new rider and like to take my kids with me. I couldn't talk to them without shutting the machine off it was so loud, my wife hated the smell even with "fresh scent" synthetic and I thought it had way too much power for trail riding for a beginner. I've been looking at Phazers and Venture lites but I am seeing some 08 Nytros in my price range. I see they weigh the same as a Phazer and have better ergonomics for big guys. I just didn't care for the yank everytime I touched the throttle on my 1M. I'd like smooth take off so my wife doesn't feel like she'll go off the back every time I start out and a throttle that is forgiving to a beginner not to mention the quiet. One passed me on the lake the other while I was sitting there and is was so quiet, amazing. Sorry for the long first post I just wanted to explain where I am coming from. Great forum BTW, saved me from buying a venture lite after reading about the tunnel icing issues in cold areas. Had I not read about it here thats what I would be shopping for right now.

I think the area you'd want to be looking into is clutching. Schmidt Brothers make a clutch kit for the Nytro that is supposed to have a low smooth engagement.

yea, there is no way to de-tune these, as far as I know. but changing clutching is a different story... there are kits out there that are pretty cheep and they lower the engagement, which makes the comfort ride alot better. your saying you didnt want to buy a venture because of tunnel icing issues? the nytro is horrible for tunnel icing, block off plates for the exhaust will remedy that tho. just thought I would put that in there too.

Thanks guys, I was reading about the Schmitt Bros comfort clutch kit on here last night and for $150 it sounds like a great option for smooth starts. My children's 120 has a spring I can move to 3 different power positions to keep the power down until they know how to ride better. I was hoping there might something similar for a Nytro.

I didn't know about the icing on this model I'll have to look into it. From what I read on the venture lite its a serious wear the track out issue as it builds up on the heat exchanger up front if you ride in cold weather. A remedy guys were trying on here was to extend the exhaust so it exits out the back like a Nytro/Phazer/Venture gt.

Don't worry about the tunnel icing issue. You can buy or make a kit for either the nytro or Phazer and that solves the big prioblem. Nytro's are not a beginners machine. There's a reason they're called a NYTRO! They explode out of the hole and to detune one of these is like taking a shower with a rain coat on. And on the other hand these are single rider machines only.

For the occasional ride my wife will take with me I see they make seat jacks for the Nytro and the Phazer and my kids I keep in front of me. I realize its not a beginner machine hence the wanting to tune it down for a bit. Just don't want to get a Phazer and after a season in the saddle say damn I wish I bought a Nytro. Not to mention my wife and I are about 400lbs combined which I think would be handled better by the larger engine.

Does anyone 2up on their Nytro occasionally? Do they pull as hard as my 900 or are they more managable? (reading about the smooth torque curve) I'm 6'2 and heavy, I found sitting on the Phazer and the Nytro the Nytro felt more full size if that makes any sense. Pardon the rookie questons and yes I am reading the other threads trying to learn what I can.

Any opinion is welcome as I very limited sled experience.

I have a Nytro Jack two up add on seat for the Nytro. I take my daughter on rides with me a few times a year. I had a old cat two up but hated to ride it after riding on a rider forward machine, it just sucked. So I bought the seat. Works great. Together we are about 300+ pounds.

The Nytro pulls hard, but you can control that with your right thumb. My daughter loves the hard pull. You can clutch the sled for easier take off, but after that, smooth acceleration is up to you and your thumb. Hope this helps.........

Adjust throttle cable or throttle so it can only top out where you want it to... price: free.
