I have an 07 venture and want to prevent the crack in the oil tank, I simply removed the bottom nut and bent the bracket out of the way. It is now only supported by the two top bolts but still seems very sturdy. Can anyone see a problem with doing this.

Not a good idea. It needs the bottom mount to properly support the tank. Without it the weight of the tank will be to much for the top mount and eventually brake there instead (probably faster than the bottom would brake) If anything, add a rubber grommet to the lower mount to cushion the vibration.

on my brothers 06 we just did what grizztracks mentioned. we opened up the hole a little and put a grommet in it. if you do this be careful not to get carried away with the hole size there's a chance you can get into the oil. sled has about 3600 miles so far and no cracks. you also don't want to crank down on the nut so far that you lose the cushioning effect.

My brother broke 2 one may have been helped along by a nasty roll over went through a swampy section and 1 ski went through the slush/ice at about 35 mph snapped it over violently and tank started leaking afew weeks later, lucky he wasn't hurt.
He reinforced the tank corner with extra metal and jb weld and the drilled it out and added grommet no problems since.

I was thinking of doing the same thing and it would actually probably hold up. But what i did only took about 15 minutes to do anyway...
I have modified a couple of the options that I researched on here. This is where i got my ideas from...

So what I did was add the grommet, and attached to the grommet is ALSO about an Inch and a half of limiter strap attached to original bracket.
This way I feel that I'm guaranteed that the tank won't crack and will be supported equally.
