I recently bought a well used 2009 RS Viking. Clutch was loud compared to my 2006 VK Pro, so I had a rebuild kit put into it, its still noisy. Please see attached clip, can anyone identify what's causing the rattle while its running, still functions fine. Thanks!

the idle sounds low from the sound clip.

Idle is within spec.

Are you recommending the idle should be set higher to make the rattle stop? If so, what RPM do you recommend?

try it at 1500 as the same motor is in the venture/vectors from that era. spec on those is 1450-1550 rpm idle speed.
the 3 holers are notoriously harder on clutch parts and a bit of a rattle on them is considered normal.

Did you put new spider buttons in? Did you shim them with the shims that Yamaha offers.

I had a guy put the rebuild kit from royal in it (SM-03249). From what I am hearing if I spin the track and the rattle goes away, its fine. Thoughts?

Set idle to 1500, still clunky. Lift the rear and spun the track and it seems to quiet down. Drive the piss out of it and don't worry about it?

It's not necessarily the clutch itself but the stub shaft that is inserted into the "dog gear", or whatever it's called, has slight play, which is exacerbated by the 3 cyl. harmonics. Lots of people have tried all sorts of fixes including JB Weld, Permatex sleeve and gear adhesive, drilling and pinning the gear, all but the last one fail. Lots of posts about this problem.
A clutch rebuild or a "Quiet clutch kit" might help to reduce the noise but won't eliminate it.

APR-20-2017 EDIT There are no pictures as Imageshack has deleted my account in their changeover. I'll re-upload them once I get around to digging into this again. To sum it up the loctite/bearing retainer method was only a temporary fix, rattle came back after a few rides. I have an idea for...

2018 Btx SE Does anyone else get super agitated with the clutch rattle in this thing.... I'm in love with sled But damn! I have looked into it and it appears the 2018 "update" included longer spacers and loose rollers in primary, I assume this is intentional to rattle rollers and keep them...
