It has been suggested to me that to improve belt life and ridability I should change my stock (Yel-Silv-Yel) primary clutch spring to a Yel-Pink-Yel?

I was hoping to get some opinions on this?

Machine is a stock 08 Nytro RTX.

Keep it stock. Most times Yamaha is dead nuts with their clutching on stock machines. But if you are curious change it out and give it a try. It will only cost a couple bucks and ten minutes of your time, and you can always go back.

On my first ride last year (with this machine) with only about 1800 miles on it, the belt disintegrated after about 50 miles!
I have seen in this forum other guys with similar results, and on a post I made last season on this issue a member suggested I change the primary spring. I now plan to start each season with a new belt, but it's just I have 13k on my 700sx and have only replaced the belt twice! And. it never blew one. Also, it's not only for possible improved belt life (as this member suggested), he also stated it would improve the 'ridability'. I was hoping now to get some different opinions before the start of this season.

I would gather that clutch alignment, clean sheaves and good condition clutch buttons/sliders would be more of a factor to better belt life, rather than a spring change would accomplish.

I changed out my primary spring to lower the engagement rpms as I felt the clutch engaged pretty harshly and wanted a softer engagement from a standstill.

Clean and service your clutches before changing out springs...a proper operating clutch is key.

x2 on alignment check. possibly a bad motor mount maybee, lettn the engine move to much? 4 strokes have more torque than 2 strokes, harder on belts. put 2400 mi on my last belt. didnt disinegrate but is worn out. new belt b4 i start ridin this year 4 sure

three checks...offset...center to center and parallelism...

a softer preload makes the sled more enjoyable of a cruiser and in deep snow..and come in with less of a hit ...reduces trenching
