I would like to lower clutch engagement on my RTX SE and was wondering if any clutch tuners had any advise for using stock weights
and just changing the primary spring. I was going to use a Yellow-pink-Yellow spring 30kg-113kg, as it was suggested that it worked good for the RTX, but when I looked at my primary spring I realized it was different than the RTX. Why did Yamaha set the primary clutch up different in the RTX SE, more low end pull? the following is the clutch specs for both.
RTX- primary spring Y-S-Y 35kg-118kg Weight inner- 4.5 gram Weight center- 4.5 gram Weight tip- 2.4 gram
RTX SE - Primary spring B-W-B 45kg-111kg Weight inner- 4.5 gram weight center- 4.5gram weight tip- 0.8 gram.
Both sleds use the same base weight 49.5 grams.

I am wondering why Yamaha changed this, it makes for a very snappy take off, but can be annoying in slower trails where the clutch is always engaging and disengaging. I also like lower engagement when starting off in deeper snow.

Should I just try the Y-P-Y and possibly add weight to the tip like on the RTX. I know the rivets are cheap, are they hard to change.
Or would there be a better spring using the weights as they are now.
Does changing the spring rate change th shift RPM much? the B-W-B having a rate of 2.0 kg/mm and the Y-P-Y has a rate of 2.5kg/mm.

here you go...if you are going to the y-p-y and max rpms are a bit low you'd be right on..this will give you the lowest engagement....if max rpms are a bit high and you want a lasy feeling..and less rpms on top ...you could go w-p-w
this sled has gobs of torque so you most likely wont have to touch the rivets...

SJ...Do you know an easy fix for my stock clutching to gain 100/200rpms on top?

Goto a lighter rivit on the tip. I believe you could order them from your dealer..

I forgot to mention that I only have 500 miles on this Nytro. Due to snow conditions I have not rode it yet this year but last year it was running 8800-9000 Rpm with stock clutching. I was going to buy a Ulmer racing clutch kit or drag n flys, but am going to wait another year for some feedback from Ulmer racing on the Team tied setup.

Thanks for the feedback SJ ;)!

I'm also looking into adding a clutch kit for my SE. I didn't know that there are slight differences in the primary springs between the SE and RTX models. I've been very pleased with my recent product and service from Schmidt Bros Motorsports. So I will be investigating their clutch kits. There's good feedback on their you-tube video as well.

if looking to reclutch Id stay with ulmer if you are less into tweaking or heelclicker drag n flys if you can handle a bit...

in the long run, with the right setup, the heelclicker dnf's and 2 speeds are the fastest IMHO
