Why is the upper chain case bearing in the Viper and Sidewinder a self-aligning bearing? What moves that this is needed?
Why wouldn't a regular deep groove ball bearing work?

I remember some chat concerning the older style Procross, and a problematic wobble bearing? wheres some were hoping it was removed for the sidewinder when it first came out. Not sure about a self aligning bearing on the winder because Ive never had to screw with that shaft or bearings yet!Why is the upper chain case bearing in the Viper and Sidewinder a self-aligning bearing? I may have answered my own question with some more research.
Post 2016 seem to have a regular roller bearing in the upper case. A 6206 bearing
2014-2016 have a self-aligning bearing in the upper case.
I have machined a 6305 bearing to fit the upper shaft of 2014 Zr and was wondering if a regular bearing will work in place of the self-aligning bearing. Also cutting out a 3mm spacer to take the slack up in the case.
I am working on a friends 2014 ZR 7000 and am trying to save him the expense of a new shaft and secondary clutch while still upgrading the upper case bearing.
I have been going a round and round on this.
No good deed goes unpunished.

Viper and sidewinder have a different top bearing in chaincase. sidewinder has a normal fixed bearing. Those wobble bearings were from the 1100 Suzuki days because those engines would move.

I got the 6305 bearing to work in the 2016 case with the 2014 shaft. I had to make a few spacers, machine the inner dimension of 6305, but it all fits together nicely and eliminates wobble bearing.
It would be interesting to see a future owner take it apart and try to figure out what is going on!!!!!
