Anyone check? Around here $1.89 last week, $4.99 this week. WTF?
This is Central WI, but it is pretty bad over much of the upper midwest.
Most places will only fill, 100 too 300 gallons max.
If you have propane heat, you might want to plug in some electric heaters, as electric heat is cheaper than $5 propane.
Talk is that $10 propane may happen soon.

3.49 to 3.89 here in eastern mn. Thankful to have an outdoor wood boiler. Would be a cold house and garage otherwise.

Yeah, its just crazy....

I just bought a house that has propane for hot water heat and for the stove top. I had it filled in Oct. when it was low (previous owner paid) and was at 25% 2 weeks ago. I called up the place that the tank is leased to and they refused propane to me because they weren't getting any propane and not taking in any new customers. I bitched and told them that they can come and take my take away, I will find another source. After the bitching, he asked what it gets used for? Really? You have it right in front of you. He said they would send a truck right away as he thought it was for my shop. The price before was $1.87 and I paid $2.96 a gallon.

Not sure what it is here. I don't use propane for heat just stove, water heater and dryer. I heat with a pellet stove. Love it and never changing.

was .52c a litre in the summer now is 1.18c/litre and climbing. No longer does it matter what the global markets are doing so if that's the case why didn't we benefit from production right here in north America. Its just...good...business

The farmers are gonna hate me for this, but the rise in propane prices is being attributed to the use of propane to dry corn ... just another way that ethanol is affecting our economy.

the propane shortage is partially due to the bumper crop of corn that was wetter than usual. Transportation of oil from the dakotas and rest of that region is being used up by oil shipments out of the area - so the propane from the Bakken shale region is not being moved. pipeline maintenance for most of december effected the price as well. unavailability of storage in the northeast is making the problem worse. Propane production in 2013 was strong.

i work for a large gas distribution company and i saw our cost go up over $4/gal last friday.

At least you can get propane. Where I live we couldn't even get it for a couple of weeks. When it come it was at $7.10 a gallon. I shut my house down for a couple of weeks( thank goodness for a traveling job). Ill open back up when it becomes affordable. Shane.

There isn't a shortage at all. They closed a main LP pipeline to run tar sand through it for crude. Add to that it is colder farther south and for longer periods of time, there is more demand. Propane has been used to dry corn since I can remember(44 years old) and a lot of the corn crop came out of the field without needing drying or very much at all. Someone is selling you smoke and your buying.

Not many small Farmer's around any more drying with propane and any big corn drying facility on farm or commercial are on natural.
What the hell, Farmer's are only 1.6% of the population let's blame them. Every thing else is the Farmers fault this may as well be to. LOL
