So I just picked up a leftover 2018 sidewinder XTX 137. Got it home: no free sag, bottoms out to the coupler blocks when standing on it and rebounds extremely slow when I get off it. Can’t seem to bounce on it in the garage.
Brought it back to dealer and they think this is just the way Yamaha spec’d/valved the shock BUT they are calling Yamaha on it.
Has anyone had this problem and if so was it covered under warranty? If I get this sled back untouched, I’m swapping that shock myself for something with a rebound adjustment and I’m all ears for suggestions.
Hopefully it won’t come to that.

Did you check rebound on the rear shock? I believe The only difference between QS3 and QS3R is the Kashima coating. Rebound adjustment is tucked up under the track at the top of the shock. Tough to get to, but you can get it with a dime.

I think the QS3R is the model with rebound. I didn’t see a rebound adjustment and neither did the dealer.

That’s your rebound adjustment on the top of the shaft

Is sled new? Check the position of the link which lower eyelet of rear shock is attached to. Should be pointing up. How much do you weigh? Lastly and most common error. Is sled on flat ground when checking? No dollies?

XTX does not have "R" (rebound) . It has the cheaper QS3 shocks.

You're right there Dan. After looking into it all the new Qs3 shocks have Kashima coating, but only the QS3R have rebound. I always thought the "R" was just a "RACE" monogram.....

You didn’t by chance have it sitting on dolly wheels did you,

We will give him more time. We all have done it. Nothing to be embarrassed about.

No...I’m smarter than that...however the service guy was bouncing on it in the back of my pickup and thought it was fine.
Hopefully the humor here is self explanatory.

Cheaper for sure...what’s the best rear shock for me if Yamaha doesn’t warranty this? Aftermarket QS3R with Kashima?XTX does not have "R" (rebound) . It has the cheaper QS3 shocks.

I’m prepping my new pilot 6.9’s while I wait to hear back from the dealer - thanks for the thorough thread Dan

You check the link then? You have a great shock already. The rebound is nice but not needed for most people. Could be added to yours also. Way cheaper than a new one.Cheaper for sure...what’s the best rear shock for me if Yamaha doesn’t warranty this? Aftermarket QS3R with Kashima?

Can’t. Sled is at dealer. I’m just prepping for the worst and was curious if this was common while waiting to hear back.

I would say if you are under 250# its not normal. Sure suspect that link though. Even a blown shock the sled should still not hit the blocks just sitting there since the springs hold the sled up.
