I noticed the belt on my XTX was sitting slightly below the edge of the secondary. So I took it off and added shims to the 3 bolts. With the secondary off the sled, the belt sits just above the edge of the sheaves....right where I want it to.
However, when I hook the belt up to the primary...it sits even lower in the secondary now, indicating that the belt is too short?...pulling the secondary apart?
SO....how do I get the belt to sit above the secondary when hooked up to the primary?...and what is the belt deflection supposed to be? Is there a spec for it? Do I need a longer belt, or does the motor move? (slide the motor back to reduce the center to center measurement = more deflection?)
Any help is appreciated.....thanks.

Did you run the sled on a stand after you made the adjustment? If not try that because sometimes the belt will want to stay down a little until it gets spun around a few times. The deflection should be about 1 to 1.25 inches.

Yup....I ran it for awhile on a stand after adjusting it...and it still sits lower in the secondary than it did before.cwcsrx700 said:Did you run the sled on a stand after you made the adjustment? What kind of belt are you using, and how much use is on the belt ?

it is best to set de-flection first and let the belt sit where it does.
If the belt is too short or too narrow..sitting high won't happen.
Adjust the deflection with the secondary.

On an jackstand the belt will not come all the way back up to the top usually.
Here is a good rule of thumb to use.

Thanks for the info...I'll check it with the sled on the floor.
