I am considering going to the Timbersled rear suspension on my MTX to drop the 30lbs, but I wondering how it is on the trails conpared to the stock suspension? Will it make the handling worst than stock?

Thanks

It works great everywhere in my opinion and with that opinion and $4 you can buy a mean cup of coffee at starbucks HeHe I ride a lot of trails to get back into the hills and notice a major improvement over stock everywhere. The weight saving is an added bonus The stock suspension was a little too soft. I have read on here people have had success with using different springs in the back but i chose to loose the extra +/- 30 lbs and never looked back

If you are a heavier rider like i am (250 geared up), I went ahead and had Allen at Timbersled rework the rear shock to handle the extra weight. He has made some improvements this year with the mounting position of the shocks that give a little stiffer set-up as well.

I only had one minor problem the first ride out after the swap but a quick call to Allen showed that the initial set-up i had was a little off. Now everything is great. You cant go wrong with the Timbersled set-up and their customer service is top notch.

Also there have been several threads on here about the Timbersled rear suspenion. do a search and i am sure you can find more info on the subject. ;)!

bholmlate,

We're riding the same areas... what track length did you go with?

Just received the Timbersled Mtn Tamer but haven't decided on rails yet or length? What rails, did you go with and what track? Would you do it again or what would you change?

Contemplating 162" Ice Age but not sure if I'll miss the tipped up ends--also thinking of 162" Apex rails or extensions on stock rails...

Thinking of PowerClaw 162 or CE 162-- PowerClaw 162 only comes in 80 durometer wondering if that will hold up to Sierra cement?

Thanks bholmlate for your responce. Seems like it is the way to go. Also wondering with the better weight transfer is the skid easier on slides?

I would have to say Yes!!! the timbersled suspension really helps with the Hyfax wear issue on the Nytro's as well. You will still have wear but it is more balanced over the entire Hyfax and not in one spot. I also talked to my dealer about the wear issue i had the first year and it was recommended that I buy a set of anti-stab wheels and install them right where the track comes in contact with the front of the rails. So i really cant say which hepled the most but after installing the suspension kit and the wheel kit, i did not see nearly as much wear as i did with the stock suspension the first season.

Right now i am running the timbersled suspension with Allen's 153 rails and the stock track. This year I was planning on swapping out my stock track with a CE 162 because of the good things i have heard on here in the past but was laid off and money is really tight right now.

I am not sure if you are aware but the rails that Allen sells at Timbersled are manufactured by Ice Age especially for his mountain tamer kit. However the rails are set-up to run an Artic Cat rear axle with 8' wheels. I ordered a set of 153'' rails through Allen. You might be able to talk with Allen about getting a set with a different axle set-up but i am not sure about that. I know Ice age will make the rails any way you want as well. I am very happy i went the route i did. They made bolting on his kit a breeze. As far as the tipped up rails I really didn't notice a difference between the stock rails and Allen's rails.

As far as the track is concern, I am kind of in the same boat as you Now. After spending the summer reading the forums about the different tracks and different lengths on TY, I am wondering if it would be better to stay with the same length and go with a better track like the CE. It sounds like a major improvement over stock. If you are going with boost i would say go with the 162". I don't have a boosted sled at this point maybe someday =). the Powerclaw seems to be a great track as well but being a 80 durometer track i am with you on it possibly not holding up in the sierra cement we get around here.

For now I think i am going stay at 153" and switch out my track when i can and probobly go with a CE.

It will be interesting to hear from people who bought the new 162 SE this year to find out their impressions on the longer track on the nytro's.

Hope this helped ;)!

Here are a couple of links talking about the different tracks
