Hi alll, I have a 91 Big Bear that's rather awkward on the up shift. My question is will the shifting be any easier if I were to remove the shifter and lower it a little?

If memory serves I remember hearing someone mentioning this somewhere before. I tried Googling to find out proper placement for one's foot and proper leaver height but didn't find anything. Hope some of you may be able to shed some light on this . Thanks!

Yes, my friend and I went for a run last night. It was a pain trying to shift to say the very least. I tried placing my heel on the edge of the foot peg and I did manage to get a few good shifts. I'm thinking if I were to remove the shifter and rotate it counter clockwise it should allow for closer contact with my foot. Don't know if this will solve my problem or not but it sounds as though it might. Is there a proper height for the shifter in relation to the foot peg? I have read where the brake lever ought to be nearly level with its foot peg. Thanks!

depends on foot size but yes this will help shift faster if it sits on your foot properly.

kimpex also made a kit for those that mounts on the foot peg to make it a heel and toe shifter . uncle has it on his 1992 big bear and it works great.

Just loosen the pinch bolt and move the shifter where it is comfortable. Just don't put it so low that your toes are in danger of hitting things. It is a lot easier to shift when you just have to rock your foot as opposed to lifting your leg.

I bought the heel/ toe shifter for my Big Bear, It was the best thing I could of done. Mine was a 97 and had a pivit post and a linkage to the shifter. I put a grease Zerk on the pivot housing so I could grease it.
