Quick question: removing exhaust covers..

My sled is at the yamaha dealer getting some suspension changes done. I have an extra set of exhaust covers so decided to paint them. When i get the sled back I'm going to paint all the plastics and swap the exhaust covers with the ones I painted..

Heres my thing, after I painted them i was looking at them and then realized.. how the hell do i get the other ones off and these on?? I never took them off before and the way it looks like they bolt on it doesnt look too simple, looks like maybe seat and rear plastics have to be removed.
So anyone have any input since I dont have my sled to take a look? If i had my sled here they would be on by now..

I just finished putting my sled all back together.

I'm pretty sure that you'll need to have the rear plastics off to fasten the rear bolts on the side covers. I can't remember if the foreward screw on each side cover can be accessed if the seat is in palce. You'll know when you get your sled back when you look at it,.

Even if the seat has to come off its really easy to disconnect the brake light lead and pull the seat. There are just two threaded rods/hooks at the aft side of the muffler shield that you undo.

so all i need to do to get the seat off is take off the back plastics/light etc and undo the j-hooks and pull the seat back and off, correct?

you'll have to excuse my stupidity here, i havent had the chance to dismantle this thing yet and been on doos for 5 years until now.

The sleds at the dealer hopefully picking it up next week and then going to completely tear it down so I figure the more I know ahead of time the better, lol!

By the end of summer i'll know how to completely build an apex, lol!

Thats pretty much it. The exhaust tip covers, the rear bumper trim cover, then the tail light trim. The actual tail light is attached to the seat.

Then you can undo the hooks to free the seat. As you free the seat there is a bit of length in the tail light harness so you can move the seat some and then disconnect it. The connecter is at the front bottom of the seat mag side.

While you have the seat off, pop the gas tank off and check out your exhaust donuts :).

dealer did them in feb under warrenty. They were soo bad they literally were like 1/4 left, the dealer was in shock. And the sled only had 2,800 miles on it. But one of the reason i got it for soo cheap too.

I think I'm going to check them again though because it had a sparatic back fire when letting of the gas going down sharp hills from the left pipe so i think one came loose.. again..

Check to see if the clamps are tight. Many of us have ground down one side too make them draw down tighter.

Yea thats what I am going to do. The exhaust donuts were done at the dealer and they didnt want to do this when they did it. So im going to redo it by grinding them down. They dealer still has my sled, so i cant touch it yet...
