RA adjuster--Compression or Rebound?

As I understood it, the RA knob was primarily for compression, and a smaller amount for rebound adjustment. That waste of tree pulp ragazine SnoGoer says it's primarily for rebound adjustement. Which is it?

Its both. The RA knob adjusts a bypass within the shock that lets fluid bypass the valve stack (I haven't torn mine apart but I got this from a guy who rebuilds them at a large US dealership).

As far as real life performance, on my 05 I found at lower settings it affected rebound the most, but at stiffer settings it gave compression a good boost also (you can use it to help control bottoming out).

Also it affects both high and low speed (shock velocity) damping similarly with probably a little more effect on the low speed damping.

It's still a compromize (over a custom tuned valve stack), but overall it's one of the best adjustable shocks I have experience with.
