Race Concerns

I have a RX-1 Shorty. To date I have ECP Filters, 165 mains, Silver Springs, EVAC setup, simons CPR stage 2 kit installed, HH's, 96- 1.343 Roetin hornets down the middle or a 1.25- 9818 Camo Track. I think the sled runs strong.

Everyone around here wants a piece of me. They are having a 1/2 mile drag race tomarrow. There will be sleds like a Rev 600, Rev 800, ZR 800, ZRT 800, XCR 800 maybe a ZR 900. Maybe some modded sleds but mods that are not tweeked. These guys around here think you can slap on a set of loud pipes and you get 150 hp. I'm so glad you guys are here with tech advice.

conditions will be about O degree, 1-2 " hardpacked, w ice.

Any stratagy I should be thinking of. Do I need to be concerned with any of the sleds.

The guy with the ZR 800 keeps pulling out the magazines where the ZR 800 beats the RX and RX's can't break 100. I keep telling him lets race then. He keeps whining " Take your studs off to make it fair" I told him BIte Me, took me 4 hours to install.

If that ZR 800 is your biggest concern, you should be all set. Beat the 03 every time in just 500 ft. 1/4 mile should be a no brainer. didn't even have all the add ons that you have. If you got your HH's from the speedshop, get with Matt, I understand there is a new set up if you have the ECP filters. Good luck.

My buddy(03 zr800 with studs and 1 1/4 track) jumped the gun against my warroir out of the hole and i still cought him and passed him with a 3+ sled lead... all within 50 feet or so..

and my sled was all stock , no studs with only the stage two clutck kit (not well tuned)

In its current state it didnt pull at all like my old warrior with the ECP kit and studs!!

The 800s should be no problem... the zr900 shouldnt be eather as long as its stock!!

Have fun and keep us posted!

Well race went as planned. A Little colder then exprected like - 5 Deg.

In the 1/2 mile I beat a modded XCR 800, a REV 800HO and a trash talking ZR 800. Also crushed a stock warrior. My sled only has 680 miles on it.

They then put me in the 900 class.

I then raced a ZR 900 and he beat me by 1 1/2 sleds. He has a stock ZR.

I got the ZR out of the hole and had him for 2000 feet then he slowly passed me.

I think I need to either do some gearing or try the updated Stage 2 clutch kit. I need just a little more top end if it can be had.

Any suggestions

I just found with a *smaller* sled, that the tension on the secondary can make the difference between being beaten by 50 feet and winning by 300 feet. Try lightening up your HH's or shimming your primary spring, and unwinding your secondary. After doing this, your clutches will run hotter, but you should have better top end. Also might try gearing UP for top end.

If you are geared stock,24/38, don't gear up. You don't have the power to pull it. There must be something wrong with the XCR if you can beat it and not the zr9. A modded XCR should easily be the fastest of those sleds.

The race course was paced off by a knuckle head with a 500 polaris. Today I found out the distance was real close to a 1/2 mile. So in recalculatiing, I beat the ZR 900 off the line and had him all then way to about 2000 feet.

10000 out of hole finish at 10300. Could not see my speedo because it was fogged up. I must have been doing better then 117 on the speedo, what a rush. Skis were dancing on the snow the way. I am happy with the weight transfer. Hole shot was great with 96 Roetin Hornets I got from Matt/ speedshop.

Matt is sending me one of the Stage 2 updates ASAP for next weekend. Thanks for the great service MATT. Nice to talk to you over then phone.

deshkae-that thing needs to hit 10700 right out of the hole
keep it at 10700-10800 all the way and you will have no problem with anyone of those guys-zr900 800 t-cat what ever they have ive done it
put my kit on 1st though!

Dynarex,

I had an EVAC kit on that I made up in about 1 hour with some parts I found in my shed. Looks crude but I think it worked. There was no wall at 100 mph like some report useing ECP filters. I think with a little better EVAC kit from you and Matts new clutch calibrations for the ECP, It should be a hot setup. Hope all arrives by next Saturday. I'll run againts the ZR 900 again, hopefully I will do better.

Comments from the people standing at the finish line, " we didn't really hear your sled comming but when it passed, it looked like a blur and when it passed it sounded way cool. " we thought the XCR 800 and ZR 800 were gonna blow you away, I guess you can't belive what you read"

Here is a picture of the race between my RX shorty and a ZR 900. This was at the finish line at 1/2 mile. I had him pretty much all the way. He passed me in the last 2 or 300 feet.

That was the first race I lost to the 900. My RPMs were like 10000 to 10200. I am waiting on Matts new Stage 2 kit. I know my RPMs were low. I should have taken him. In the 1/4 mile he would have been toast.
