When I go out in the powder my rad freezes solid and temp light comes on. Would a screen help or drilling holes in bottom plastic cover? Any thing work?

Thanks

The only thing that will help is if you install the same fan that comes on the MnTn Lite and the Venture Lite.

The wiring is already in place for the fan, and Yamaha has told the dealerships the details on the installation as they seem to know about this.

I dont know the price of the fan, but Im looking into doing it myself.

Before spending the money on the fan, make sure there are 600km or so. Most of my overheating issues quit once the engine was properly broke in, plus check your tunnel cooler like blueheron said. With the stock track it would ice over severely, since I've put in the 1.5 the light hasn't come on, and the rad is iced over all the time.

My light was coming on also so I asked the dealership what do I do? They said clear the ice off, drive it harder and faster through more snow. Don't worry about it the vectors and apex do the same thing. If it gets too hot it will automatically shut down. He said if the motor goes Yamaha will cover it on warranty.

That fan is amazing one way or another. Have you put your hand near it to feel the amount of air being blown around when it turns on? I have, and the thing could float a hovercraft it has so much airflow.

My rad on my mountain lite is frozen over all the time in powder but my tunnel cooler stays clear and I've never had the overheat light come on, not once.

Seems that the tracks with the bigger lug moves the snow away from the heat exchanger preventing the plugging effect I experience in deep snow with my stock track. That along with the fan in the mountain light seems to avoid the heating problem. Yellowknife can you tell me wether the fan blows outward through the rad or is it pulling air through. If it goes outward it should melt the snow away and then let the ram air effect work when not blocked.

The fan sucks air into the rad and blows it out the back of it through the side vent. It does not blow air forward through the rad...but there's so much air being blown that I bet it all swishes around anyway and thaws it because mine clears itself up.

Ran 100 miles yesterday some trail, some ditches, some powder. Rad plugged when playing in powder but never any overheating issues. Rad was clear by the time I got home. Rode with a Rev 800 he used $32 fuel, other guy on a XLT used $42 and I used $22 which is 18mpg. Impressed so far
